Chapter 296: Help

Darius took me to the healing spot, and there I was, lying down on the bed while the woman checked up on me. She screamed in the night, and it was very awful.

"Is she okay, please?" he asked again for the millionth time while the healer turned to him.

"She’s very okay. I just need to check her vitals and some other things. I’m very much at risk to go through this. You just have to be strong, my lord," she said, but he shook his head.

"No, she’s definitely not okay. She has been off all this while. Look, her eyes are weak. Her skin is no longer as red as it used to be."

"Ouch," I said, and I glared at him. As he turned to me, he sighed.

"I’m very sorry, my lord, but it’s just that she is no longer herself. Something is wrong with her, and I’m very sure it is sickness," the woman said, and then she started checking my pulse one more time.

Then she made eye contact with me. She was about to talk when I squeezed her hand tight. Then she turned to Darius.

"Can you please excuse us for a while?"

"Why is that?"

"I need some privacy with my patient, please."

"No, I am her husband."

"Future husband," he corrected himself, "but I have every right to be here. I want to know what’s wrong with my wife. The wedding is coming very soon, and I want her to be in perfect health before I ruin anything."

"Please, Darius, excuse us," I said, and then he bit his lips. He stood up and left hesitantly.

When she turned back to me, she said, "You are pregnant, ma."

I nodded my head. "I know, I know," I said, "but you can’t say anything."

"What?" she said. "This is a happy thing. I thought maybe you had already planned another escape and were surprised to tell your husband, but you can’t tell me not to tell him. I am a demon, and he’s a demon, and demons have to trust each other. You are becoming a demon soon. You should know this."

"I know, but I have plans to tell him. I have a surprise," I said, and she looked at me suspiciously.

"Yes, I plan to tell him after our wedding. He does say that our wedding is coming soon, right?"

"Yes."

"So please don’t tell him. Maybe tell him you are going to ruin the surprise," I said, and then she looked at me.

"I’m not very sure about that."

"I am sure," I said, and then she swallowed.

She turned around and then said, "So what are we going to tell him? He knows something is definitely wrong with you, and if your baby starts to mature very early, he will hear the heartbeat from inside you, and then he will know you are pregnant, which is going to ruin the entire surprise."

"You are a demon, right? Can’t you make my baby’s heartbeat inaudible?"

"What? Do you?"

"Yes, that is too much. Your wedding is in just three days’ time. Your baby can’t mature that early. Please make my baby’s heartbeat not listenable and not hearable by any entity. I owe you. Please."

She stared at me. "Why do I feel like you’re not making this a surprise?"

"Oh, I am," I said. "It’s just that I don’t want to ruin the surprise for my husband. You know, Daryl is a very sharp man, and he might figure out that I am pregnant very, very soon. And I don’t want it to seem like I’m keeping the pregnancy away from him. You know, the circumstance of our marriage and the whole situation is going to make it seem like I don’t want to tell him. But I really, really want to. So please, try not to tell him. Oh, I beg you. I will tell him exactly on our wedding night," I said.

Then she looked at me suspiciously, still trying not to believe me, and then she turned.

"Are you sure? Because if Daryl also figures it out and he knows that I know, he’s going to kill me."

"I promise you I’m going to tell him exactly on our wedding night. You don’t need to be scared or anything."

Then she placed her hands on my stomach. "Very sad," she said.

And then my body suddenly became hot, and she stood up.

"See you on the wedding. See you on the wedding day."

She walked out, and then I stood up. It felt as if I was not pregnant anymore, but my baby was still there. She had managed to make my baby’s heartbeat not listenable from the outside, which was good.

And then I tried my powers, and it worked. It was not as strong as it used to be, but I am making my babies. I am making my babies. I think whatever spell she did made my power come back just a little.

And then I quickly injured myself and used my blood, rubbing my palms together.
