Verity:
The first person I met when I arrived was Gigi.
It didn’t take me long to realize that the house was a complete circus.
Everyone was gathered in one corner, eating breakfast, while Gigi stood by herself. Ragnar wasn’t there either.
I was trying to understand everything.
It was my first time stepping into the mansion.
When the maid took me to the guest room, I realized it was right next to the living room. That separate wing was where everyone was having breakfast.
I also noticed a young woman, an older couple, and, of course, Lady Lucille.
Just then, I heard Theodore’s and Jaguar’s voices.
"We were going to tell you," Theodore said humbly.
"Seriously? When?" Gigi shot back.
As I sat quietly on the sofa in the guest room, I kept my ears peeled, listening to their conversation.
"Last night, we were going to tell you, but then we came to the kitchen and you were having a moment with Ragnar. Then he got upset because we didn’t do anything when the others humiliated you," Jaguar explained.
As he spoke, I began making mental notes.
So the new family didn’t like Gigi. That was why they were having breakfast separately.
But what exactly was she upset about?
" And she decided to hire Verity?"
Well, Gigi answered those questions herself.
I smiled to myself and shook my head.
She was so insecure.
She wouldn’t even let anyone near the mansion.
I could understand if it were only because of Ragnar.
But why was she so defensive about Jaguar and Theodore?
They weren’t her mates. They weren’t her boyfriends.
They were nothing to her.
It honestly made me believe there was more going on in her head than simply being Ragnar’s girlfriend.
While they were talking, another voice joined the conversation.
"What’s going on here?"
It was Ragnar’s tired voice.
I had heard from the manager that Ragnar had been out all night, inspecting sites and visiting areas where people had reported monster activity after dark.
He did all that only to come home to a complaining girlfriend.
"Did you know about that too?" Gigi asked, not even giving him a moment to breathe.
"About what?" Ragnar asked.
"That they’re hiring Verity to help your grandmother with events," Gigi replied, keeping her voice calm.
I knew that wasn’t how she really spoke.
Like I said, I had known Gigi since childhood.
Whenever she got angry, she screamed, threw things, and even resorted to physical violence.
Justin and Gigi used to have arguments about it all the time. Ever since they were children, Gigi had a personal maid, and she treated her terribly.
Once, the maid came to our house to help Gigi with something. We noticed scratch marks all over the maid’s face.
It turned out Gigi had done it.
I remember Justin being furious with her.
But Gigi made up a story that she had been heavily medicated because of a toothache or something.
I don’t know.
Now I believed all of those excuses had been lies.
