Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All novel Chapter 14

Chapter 14: 14-Do You Smell My Scent?

Verity:

"Yes?" I asked as I stepped into his office.

The thing was, even though I had managed to convince them that I wasn’t here for revenge, my background alone had made them more protective.

Especially Ragnar.

He had raised his guard even higher.

"Why were you on Theodor’s floor?" he asked, walking to his chair and turning his back to me.

Not even the view beyond the window seemed capable of distracting him.

But at least he wasn’t meeting my gaze.

"Our printer had a huge line, so I used the one there. He was helping me clear a paper jam," I replied, keeping my voice as neutral as possible but it betrayed neither emotion nor hesitation.

Ragnar nodded before turning to face me.

His eyes were unreadable as they caught the light. I swallowed hard anxiously.

There was something about him.

I just couldn’t figure out what it was.

A single look from him was enough to unsettle me.

And I hated how much power he seemed to have over me.

"We have a bit of a situation in one of the packs we’re building on this island," he began casually.

Until now, even before learning about my past, he had never trusted me with anything important.

He treated me like a clueless amateur, someone who had no idea what she was doing.

Honestly, I was still surprised he hadn’t fired me already for my unprofessionalism.

And now, well, Gigi felt sorry for me.

Since she had insisted that she wanted my help to heal, he had no choice but to keep me around.

"Do you want me to, um, put together a report on it?" I asked, trying to stay one step ahead and prove that I wasn’t completely clueless.

However, the way he scoffed and shook his head already made it clear that he thought I was an idiot for not letting him finish.

"No,I am headed over to the pack myself. Pack your shit. We are leaving early in the morning," he commanded, without explaining further.

"So, uh, I am going with you. Who else is coming?" I asked, trying to get more information on what we would be doing there and what he expected from me, because I would need to do a bit of homework on it.

"Do as I told you. Be ready by 6 a.m. tomorrow morning," he replied, not even looking up.

He was already typing something on his computer screen.

"Okay," I responded, walking over to my desk in the corner of his office.

There used to be a small partition there, but now he had gotten rid of it.

I was right in his view.

I just grabbed my file and decided to go sit somewhere outside.

"You are not supposed to sit outside anymore."

As he said that, I immediately stopped. Something was up.

There was no way he had just changed his behavior so quickly toward a very unreliable and unworthy employee.

I turned to look at him, trying to understand his behavior.

Was he feeling pity for me for what he did to my brother?
