Chapter 192: 192-Distant After sex

Jenna:

He cleaned himself and began getting dressed.

I climbed out of the river and got dressed as well.

Then I walked back and sat on the mattress, expecting us to eat something together.

Before leaving the house, I had packed a few sandwiches.

Instead, he snapped his fingers.

"Come on. I have to drop you home," he called after stepping into the darkness.

"I thought we’d have something to eat. It’s okay. They won’t notice," I said, gesturing for him to come back and join me.

"Come on. Let’s go. You know Jaguar gets up early for a jog. I don’t want him to spot you on the road while you’re heading home," he replied.

His voice sounded different.

Maybe it was because he was standing farther away, or maybe the sound of the river was distorting it.

I didn’t want to push him to stay. I was afraid he’d think I was being clingy.

It was just saddening because it wasn’t even late.

I left the mansion around 9 or something.

So I gave up, got to my feet, and followed him into the darkness.

I expected him to at least walk me to the road where the car was waiting.

Instead, he stayed in the shadows and simply pointed towards it.

I turned back and hugged him.

"Come on, what are you doing, Jenna? Go. You’ll be late," he said, immediately slipping out of my embrace.

For the first time, I wondered whether I had done something wrong.

Had he not enjoyed today?

His behaviour felt a little strange.

I climbed into the car, and throughout the drive home, I fought back tears because I couldn’t shake the fear that I had upset him.

I was almost in tears, sniffling the entire way.

Then, when I arrived, I saw a car pulling away.

It was an ambulance.

The car was already a good distance away, so I couldn’t tell whether it had come from Stone Mansion or somewhere else.

The minute my car came to a stop, I jumped out and rushed inside.

I sprinted to the back window of my room, climbed through it, and quietly shut it behind me.

I’d barely set foot on the floor when a loud knock echoed through the door.

My heart skipped a beat.

I froze completely, not even thinking about changing my clothes.

Then another loud knock hit the door.

"Jenna!" I thought as her voice broke me out of my daze.

"Shit," I muttered under my breath, looking around anxiously.

My white nightdress was lying on the couch.

I hurried over, quickly stripped out of my clothes, pulled on the white nightdress, and shoved my other clothes into the closet.

All the while, my mother kept pounding on the door, yelling for me to open it.

I didn’t understand what had happened.

I’d told her I was going to study.

Why the heck was she banging on the door like that?

As if something had gone terribly wrong.

I scattered my books across the bed, then opened the door, running my hands through my hair to ruffle it.
