Jenna:
This time, I didn’t fall face-first onto my bedroom floor. Someone had helped me climb into my room more safely than last time.
Crying against Verity’s chest while hugging her brought me such relief, but I knew it would only last for a little while.
Because once I was alone in my room and had shut the window, reality struck me.
No matter what I chose to call it, I knew it meant only one thing.
I had been forced into it.
I had been deceived. I had been coaxed.
I started shaking my head, grabbing fistfuls of my hair.
He had even broken my phone and hadn’t let me bring it with me.
And there was only one reason for that.
I slapped my forehead as the realization hit me.
That man had meticulously removed every piece of evidence that could be used to trace him.
I mean, he had sent me those messages while pretending to be Alpha King Theodore.
If I had shown those messages to anyone, they would have realized that I had been deceived.
But now I had nothing.
I didn’t even have any evidence.
Heck, I didn’t even have a name.
But I was going to talk to Gigi.
I was going to tell her that we needed to go back to that party because that man must have been there.
I couldn’t have been his only victim.
Then grief engulfed me.
I was so restless. My life had become a complete mess while everyone else was sleeping peacefully in their homes.
Gigi had nothing to worry about.
Neither did Verity. Their lives were perfect.
So why had this happened to me?
"Because you were desperate," my wolf hissed at me.
"We ruined everything for us. I told you I was getting a weird feeling about him."
Now that I was in trouble, my wolf had decided to play innocent.
She hadn’t told me shit.
"You were happy, Jenny," I complained internally, rubbing the back of my neck as dizziness began to wash over me.
"How can we tell anyone that we’ve been going into the woods for days and sleeping with someone we don’t even know?" my wolf protested.
I buried my face in both hands and let out a cry.
"And well, let’s not forget that someone else showed up too. Do you think that person was brought there by the masked man?"
I was finally referring to him as the masked man, not Theodore.
"Of course he was. Oh, Goddess. What have we done?" my wolf cried.
My sobs slowly subsided, but I began slapping myself until I felt like I could no longer remain on my feet.
A sudden wave of dizziness hit me.
