Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29: 29-Somebody Broke Into My Home

Verity:

I had just made the situation even worse.

An amused look crossed Ragnar’s face.

He probably knew he would never let me live that comment down.

"Why? How are they as bosses?" he asked, his voice dropping even lower.

I watched him closely, noticing that he had stopped blinking and even stopped moving his finger.

At that moment, I felt like he either wanted to know what was going on between me and his brothers, or he was trying to figure out whether I felt some hatred towards all three of them.

Because if I did, it would prove that I was here with malicious intent.

"Actually, Alpha King Theodor and Alpha King Jaguar are very gentle in their approach. They’re understanding and kind. They have a lot of empathy."

I quickly added,

"I’m not saying you don’t. It’s just that you don’t show it."

I was trying to do damage control.

I wanted to give the most neutral answer possible, something that wouldn’t make it seem like I was judging the brothers.

"I mean, I don’t think you’re not a good person."

The moment the words left my mouth, I watched his smile widen.

It was the first time I’d seen Alpha King Ragnar smile.

For a second, I thought I’d done a great job.

Then he brushed a finger against his nose before lowering his hand.

Tilting his head, he held my gaze.

"Have you watched Pinocchio?"

The name alone made my heart sink.

"Never mind," he muttered.

He picked up his phone and leaned forward, focusing on whatever the hell he was doing.

I stared at him for a few seconds before turning away and looking out the window.

He thought I was lying.

Or maybe he knew I was.

We didn’t speak again for the rest of the trip.

After an exhausting day of travel, we finally made it home.

When we stepped off the plane, he instructed his driver to drop me off.

I didn’t protest. I was exhausted and more than happy to accept the ride home.

The moment I arrived home and climbed out of the car, I spotted Mrs. Baker, the neighborhood busybody, standing outside as though she’d been waiting for me.

As soon as she saw me, she let out a scoff.

"Now what kind of job requires a young woman to stay away from home for days?"

I didn’t respond.

Everyone ignored her because we knew she was looking for a reaction.

"Dressed up as if you’re some CEO," she grunted, scrunching her nose.

Our eyes met for a brief moment before I looked away.

Walking past her on my way home was difficult.

Her stare had a way of unsettling people.

Most would stumble under the weight of her harsh glare.

"Some men came looking for you," she remarked, a cigarette dangling between her fingers.

I paused and turned toward her.

She has finally managed to catch my attention.

"Who?"

She took a slow drag before curling her lips into a smirk.
