Verity:
I heard Mrs. Baker’s voice, and I immediately knew she had intervened.
Of course she had.
That was exactly what I wanted.
The longer Jaguar had to wait to finally have me, the more obsessed he became.
I quickly pulled my legs away and jumped off the bed.
Grabbing my robe, I wrapped it around myself and adjusted it properly.
This time, I wore a velvet robe that covered me completely.
"Please stay here. I don’t want you to–" I murmured, biting my bottom lip and looking away.
Jaguar couldn’t even get a word out.
He remained seated on the bed, leaning forward before slowly straightening.
I didn’t wait for a response and walked out of the room.
The moment I stepped outside, I saw Mrs. Baker’s eyes widen.
Slowly, I ran a hand through my hair and strolled toward her with complete confidence.
"What is it?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest.
She understood exactly what I was implying.
That the Alpha King was in my bedroom.
That he had come here for me.
"I brought you some food," she uttered, holding out a tray.
I noticed her hand had started to tremble.
"It’s okay. You can take it back," I replied.
I watched her swallow nervously.
"I was hoping you could tell me if you’ve seen those burglars, but that’s alright."
I waved a dismissive hand, as though trying to comfort her.
"Alpha King Jaguar will find out who did it. He always does things for me."
I drew my shoulders back and gave her a sweet, almost cheeky smile.
In that moment, she probably realized she’d picked a fight with the wrong woman.
"Oh, I didn’t know you were friends with the Alpha —-King."
Mrs. Baker couldn’t even bring herself to say the right word.
"Yeah," I replied, looking down shyly and rubbing the back of my neck.
"Anyway, thank you for everything, but I’ll be fine now that he’s here," I added in a dramatic, seductive tone.
I noticed her body stiffen. Of course, she didn’t like it.
The thing was, I was doing my best to delay the intimacy and create small problems between me and the brothers.
Not enough to push them away entirely, but enough to make them feel that lingering pain.
I didn’t care whether a man or woman was a virgin, but I had to act as though it bothered me.
"Okay. If you need anything, let me know," Mrs. Baker said with a smile.
The corners of her eyes began to glisten with tears, probably because she feared that if Alpha King Jaguar investigated, his claws would reach the real culprit.
She might even know who that was.
"You know what I was thinking?"
Before the woman could leave, she turned around again and moved closer, as though we were about to discuss something in private.
"How about," she began with a smile, "we ask him to eat with us? You know, it doesn’t look good that you don’t have a family. What will he think?"
She spoke in a soft, secretive tone.
I stared at her in disbelief.
