Gigi:
"You know, I would appreciate it if you would just tell me instead of leaving me in the dark," I said.
Ragnar nodded, but the way he leaned farther back in his chair unsettled me.
Whenever Ragnar became too comfortable, you knew he was about to say something unpleasant.
"Tell me something, Gigi." He cleared his throat. "Why did you have videos of Jenna on your phone?"
The question hit me like a wrecking ball.
My posture almost stiffened, but I forced myself to remain calm.
"What?" I asked, making it sound as though even the question had caught me completely off guard.
"I checked the deleted files on your phone. There were videos of Jenna."
His jaw tightened, and for the first time, I felt genuinely afraid of him.
Then it hit me.
When they recovered my phone from the car where I’d abandoned it, Ragnar must have had all the data extracted.
That realization stunned me.
While I had been missing, he’d been going through my phone.
Or maybe he’d done it while I was in the hospital. He could’ve used my thumbprint to unlock it.
"I asked you a question."
His voice pulled me back to reality.
"That’s not possible," I replied confidently. "Is this some kind of test? Because I know for a fact there were never any videos of her on my phone, let alone videos that I deleted."
I scoffed and shook my head.
"Gigi, look at this."
Ragnar opened his laptop and turned it toward me.
"This was recovered from your deleted files."
He pointed toward the thumbnails.
Jenna was clearly visible in them.
From what I could tell, Ragnar had managed to recover most of the deleted thumbnails, which probably explained why he looked so furious.
Maybe seeing those images one after another, knowing what my brother had done to a girl from his own family, had pushed him over the edge.
"I don’t understand."
I reached for the laptop.
Ragnar slammed it shut.
The sharp sound made me jerk back in my seat.
I stared at him in disbelief.
"You said you didn’t know anything." This time, he didn’t bother controlling his voice.
"I swear I don’t." I made myself sound stunned. "Is that why you’ve been so distant from me?"
"That isn’t an answer to my question, Gigi."
I could tell he’d already lost his patience.
And honestly, I could imagine what was going through his mind.
He was probably furious.
I could practically see the image he’d had of me beginning to fall apart behind his eyes.
"Ragnar, I was sick, and you were going through my phone?"
I immediately let my voice crack, slipping into tears.
