Gigi:
"What do you mean he has someone else in his life?" I replied wearily to Rochelle.
She sounded ridiculous.
She didn’t understand that if there were anyone in Jaguar’s life, I would know immediately.
Jaguar would tell me. He told me everything.
I even knew how many women he’d slept with over the past year.
His life was under my control.
And even if he wanted out, he wouldn’t be able to escape it.
The moment he took a step outside the boundaries, I’d pull him right back in.
The circle I had drawn around those brothers was small and tight.
No one entered it without my permission, and none of the brothers left it without my approval.
"Okay, Gigi, I need to give you a reality check, or you’ll keep living in the dark."
She made my eyebrows scrunch.
"But he’s a grown man, and he’s an Alpha King. Even when he makes you think he tells you everything, he still keeps things from you."
As expected, Rochelle immediately tried to belittle me.
I’d been noticing it for a while.
She was getting irritated, and every now and then, her mask slipped.
It made me wonder how she’d behave if she ever got her hands on Jaguar.
"Okay, Rochelle, thanks for the reality check. Do you have an example to support it? Something more realistic than your assumptions? Because your assumptions are usually wrong."
I threw it back at her in the same sassy tone.
"Actually, when he was dropping me off, he slipped and called me someone else’s name."
The moment she said that, I let out a laugh.
"Rochelle, he’s not your man. You need to calm down. He works with a lot of women. He could’ve been thinking about work."
I was in the middle of explaining just how ridiculous she sounded when she said a single name.
"Verity."
I stopped filing my nails and stared at the empty wall.
"What?" I asked softly.
"He called me Verity. And guess what? He didn’t even realize it. He didn’t try to correct himself either."
Her voice was monotone.
The name alone was enough to send cold shivers down my spine.
Probably hers too.
"Rochelle, did you hear it right? Did he really say Verity?" I asked, clenching my fists and not even caring that my nails hadn’t dried yet.
"I heard it pretty clearly," she responded firmly, standing her ground.
"Well, then we have a problem," I hissed, smiling through clenched teeth.
"Exactly," she replied.
After that, I came up with a plan.
I brought up Verity and asked Rochelle a few more questions about Jaguar.
The more she spoke, the drier my throat became.
I was beginning to realize that Jaguar had the nerve to hide all of this from me.
But why?
And what the fuck was Verity doing with him?
Did she really think that an omega like her could take the place of a Luna Queen?
That she could stand beside me and become part of the family?
Part of the royal family, no less?
I told Rochelle what she needed to know, but I also realized I needed to tighten my grip on Jaguar.
After she hung up, I went after Verity.
