Verity:
They listened silently as I told them exactly what had happened and how Theodore had come to help me.
Once I was done, I watched Gigi glance around in confusion.
The worst part was that Ragnar turned his head directly toward her, as if asking whether my answers were satisfying enough.
Which left me confused.
Okay, maybe Ragnar had a problem with the fact that I was his secretary, and if I dated his brother, it could create issues.
There would be accusations of favoritism sooner or later, even though there was no rule against it in the company.
People would still complain.
Or maybe Ragnar’s problem was that his brother had specifically been seen with me.
Verity Swan.
Justin’s sister.
Verity.
"Okay, Ragnar, is it okay if I just go home for a bit?" Gigi asked in a gentle tone.
The fact that she didn’t even move a muscle felt strange in itself.
"Are you okay?" Ragnar asked as she was walking away.
She turned around dramatically and nodded before continuing on her way.
When I turned my head again, I found Ragnar staring at me.
"Provide me with the text messages and everything you’ve been receiving, and I’ll look for the culprit. If you want, I can hire a guard for you."
He spoke coldly, and it didn’t seem like he was doing it out of concern specifically for me.
He was only doing what he believed in providing protection for his employee.
So I had to do what I had to do.
"Thank you so much, Your Highness, but I can’t accept any favors from anyone. Really, thank you so much."
I said it confidently, thinking I had accomplished something, until he shook his head and scoffed.
"So you can’t accept favors from me, but my brother can do you all kinds of favors and even ruin his relationships by being late to important meetings?"
There it was.
He was taking her side because she was the love of his life.
I wondered how long it would take before I changed that.
But it also upset me a little that Theodore had left out most of the details and made it sound as though my sugar was low and he had simply offered me food.
On top of that, he had completely stopped texting me as well.
Him and Jaguar, I hadn’t even seen them today.
"Okay, I’ll keep that in mind. And I won’t let any robber beat me up or attack me anywhere near your brother."
It was a taunt.
As I got up, I watched Ragnar’s fist clench and his knuckles crack visibly, but I had to pretend I hadn’t noticed.
Otherwise, he would confront me.
So I walked back to my workstation and sat down.
For about two hours, I worked nonstop.
There were a few moments when I tried to get up, but Ragnar would simply give me more work, telling me he had emailed me something and that I needed to check it immediately.
