Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 103

Chapter 103

The men’s clothes in Josette’s closet were five years old but still brand-new. Rebecca had bought them herself.

The countryside nights were serene, filled with the sounds of insects and the fragrance of flowers. On clear nights, the Milky Way could be seen stretching across the sky.

During the early days of her marriage, Rebecca had once imagined bringing Vance here, spending quiet countryside nights together, and telling Josette she had found her true love.

So, she had prepared clothes, washed them, and left them waiting. Five years, and he had never once stayed the night.

He was particular about clothing. When she handed him the clothes, he recognized at once that they were meant for him. Yet, the styles were outdated, so he held back the words at the tip of his tongue.

Rebecca said nothing and walked past him.

That evening, they were preparing a feast. Earlier during their nap, Vance had gotten the ingredients ready. Now Josette just needed to cook them.

Rebecca hovered at the kitchen door, eager to help, but Josette shooed her away. She smiled helplessly, knowing Josette never let her lift a finger.

So, she returned to the living room and started tidying up the table.

Her phone vibrated just then. She sat down on the sofa and checked it out. The message was from Lauren, asking her to confirm flight details for the troupe.

After replying, she chatted casually with Lauren for half an hour.

Vance emerged from the bathroom. She quickly ended the conversation and swiped left to delete every message, which didn’t escape his eyes.

“What did you delete?” He walked closer in a T-shirt and sweatpants, his hair still damp.

“Nothing.” She shrugged, locking the screen.

Unconvinced, he reached out his hand. “Give me the phone.”

“No,” she protested, “you have no right to interfere in who I talk to.”

“Is that so?” He sat down next to her, invading her space.

Anticipating his attempt to snatch her phone, she got up to leave. Before she could, he caught her waist and pulled her back down.

“Don’t go crazy here!” She struggled, gripping the phone.

He knew she would never make a scene there and make Josette worry. That knowledge gave him

permission.

“Let me go!” Unable to break free, she bit him on the shoulder.

“Damn it!” he hissed, but his grip never loosened.

His fingers inadvertently brushed the phone, and she glared at him, silently negotiating. Yet instead of releasing her, he tightened his hold, placed one hand on the back of her head, and leaned in to kiss her-

first on her ear, then on her cheek.

With no choice, she loosened her bite and glanced at the kitchen. “Have you no shame?”

Knowing her worries, he pressed closer to her lips, whispering, “What’s shameful about this? What if

Josette sees this? You’re my wife.”

Irritated, she slapped him and pushed him away. But in doing so, she relaxed her grip on her phone, allowing him to snatch it from her hand.
