Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 147

Chapter 147

Vance chuckled, clearly not believing her.

“Only someone in love gets jealous,” Rebecca said, staring at the ceiling.

The image of that boy under the osmanthus tree flashed across her mind. The leaves rustled, dancing with the breeze. The boy and the girl were sharing pumpkin pies.

“Vance, I don’t love you anymore,” she muttered.

The words carried a quiet ache-the final farewell to the lovesick girl she had once been. “Hey, me from 12 years ago. Today I’m telling you: you loved the wrong person. But I’ve corrected my mistake.”

“Silly girl,” he said, ruffling her hair. “I’m going to take a shower.”

As he got up and headed to the bathroom, Rebecca settled down to sleep.

Her phone buzzed. Jenny was back from her business trip, wanting to have dinner with her.

Rebecca chatted with her, recalling their time as deskmates in middle school and how they had remained friends through college. Even after her marriage to Vance, Jenny had reached out a few times, but she had turned down every invitation.

Jenny: [Why did you stop going out and lose touch with everyone? Did Vance lock you away?]

Rebecca: [Of course not.]

The truth about her leg was something very few classmates in high school knew. She hadn’t invited any of them to her wedding and hadn’t seen them since. Most only knew that she had gotten married.

Now that she was meeting Jenny, she felt she should explain. She mentioned her leg, but not the cause.

Jenny: [What happened?]

Rebecca sidestepped the question. Jenny sensed her reluctance and dropped the subject, confirming their dinner plans.

After setting a date, they exchanged goodnights. Closing the chat window, Rebecca pondered Jenny’s earlier question: “What happened?”

A swirl of emotions rose. On impulse, she posted on social media: [Saved a dog five years ago.]

Jenny commented immediately: [So that’s why.]

Rebecca paused, unsure how to reply. Jenny then sent her a screenshot of her post, asking: [Is this what it’s about?]

Rebecca: [Yes.]

Jenny: [Can we talk?]

Chapter 14

Rebecca called Jenny, hearing her voice again after five years. A wave of nostalgia hit her.

“I’m okay,” she said. “It’s all in the past.”

Just then, Vance emerged from the bathroom and climbed into bed.

“I don’t know how to say this…” Jenny started.

He wrapped his arms around Rebecca’s waist from behind and whispered, “Mrs. Bradford…”
