Chapter 492
“Cold?” Vance asked.
“I’m fine.” Rebecca sneezed agam
He looked around them, but there was nothing he could use to warm her. The ship had blankets, but they were the rough ones used by the crew. She would probably mind.
He was only wearing a T-shirt and had nothing to offer.
“Want to go inside the cabin?”
“No.”
This was a cargo ship, and the cabins belonged to the crew. She didn’t want to take over someone else’s space or sleep in a bed that wasn’t hers.
“Wait here,” he said, standing up.
She figured he was going to find a jacket or blanket, but coldness wasn’t the only problem. Seasickness made it worse, nausea churning in her stomach.
If the ship rolled any harder, she would vomit. Just then, the wind strengthened, and the entire vessel pitched violently.
From the center of the deck, she looked at the pitch-black surroundings. The sea looked like a giant black hole. She imagined a bigger wave flipping the ship and dragging everyone under.
She tried to stand and find Vance, but dizziness hit and brought her back down. The urge to vomit grew stronger, a salty taste already rising in her mouth,
She was afraid she might throw up on the deck, but she didn’t dare to approach the railing. She had to fight hard to hold it in.
“Rebecca, come over here!” Vance called from the other end.
She slowly shook her head, and he waved. “What’s wrong? It’s warmer over here.”
She tried to stand, but another wave hit, making her slip. The nausea surged once more.
“I’m not going!” She crouched down, hugged her knees, and refused to move again.
“What’s wrong?” He hurried over. “The captain and the crew have set up a fire. Come warm up.”
She only buried her face in her knees and shook her head. That was when he realized he had pulled her out of the cabin without checking for injuries.
“Are you hurt?” he asked with concern.
At the time, he had been worried that holding her too long or getting too close would upset her.
“Let me see.” He squatted down and tried to pull her hand away. “Is it your foot?”
She didn’t want him to touch her, but her resistance only made him more insistent. Frustrated beyond endurance, she snapped, “Can you stop pulling at me? I’m feeling terrible! I’ll throw up on you!”
He paused, finally realizing it was seasickness.
“Are you seasick? Come on. Some hot food will help settle your stomach.”
“No, I’m not going.”
She couldn’t even stand steadily, and she certainly didn’t want him to see her so miserable.

“Tell me what’s going on. Why won’t you go over there? You don’t want to sit with them? Then I’ll bring you some food,” he said, starting to stand.
She panicked and lurched to stop him. “No, don’t!”
She couldn’t let him ask the crew for special treatment as if she were too good for them. The ship was still rolling, and the nausea worsened with every pitch.
He finally noticed her pale face and grabbed her arm. “Is it that bad?”
She frowned and stayed silent, terrified that opening her mouth would make her vomit.
“I’ll carry you,” he offered, reaching for her, but she shoved him away.
Unable to hold back anymore, she lunged for the railing and threw up violently over the side. When she finished, the dark, churning sea roared right below her.
She gripped the railing tightly, her lips trembling with terror.
He insisted, “Something’s not right with you. Let me check.”
She turned her face away, refusing to let him get closer. They had nothing to do with each other anymore. Besides, she felt filthy and smelled awful right after throwing up.
Her fingers grasped the railing, turning white from the force.
