Rebecca Happy New Year!!
For several days, Gabriel didn’trome home. He only called to tell everyorts not to worry he was busy outside. Reberra figured he was dealing with Catherine.
Sure enough, one night Gabriel finally returned looking unusually disheveled. His stubble bad grown out, and the glasses he usually wore for appearances were missing. He looked nothing like his usual polished self.
“It’s over. Everything has been taken care of,” he said after showering and shaving, then explained everything that had happened over the past few days.
It turned out Catherine had been caught on the same day Desmond came to find Rebecca. The person behind her was someone powerful.
Gabriel wouldn’t reveal the man’s name.
He only told her, “Catherine had something on him. She ran away and made it back to the States, where he couldn’t reach her. But then, she got into trouble and couldn’t stay.
“She sent out a signal, and he helped her escape back to Europe. She’s been using that leverage to exploit his power, including hiring someone to harm you.”
“Is that person very dangerous?” Rebecca asked.
“To ordinary people, yes. But to me, he’s manageable. Everything has been resolved now. You can relax,” he reassured her. But she couldn’t fully relax, looking at him with worry.
He ruffled her hair. “Come on, don’t look at me like that. I’m a law-abiding citizen. I would never do anything illegal.” With that promise, she finally felt relieved.
“The New Year is almost here. Any wishes?” he continued. “Tell me what you want. I’ll buy it for you.”
“I just want everyone to be safe and sound,” she replied earnestly.
“That’s a given.” He nodded. “From now on, there won’t be any more storms. By the way, Josette mentioned something we need to do for the New Year. Let’s help her tomorrow.”
While they were busy preparing for a lively New Year celebration, Vance was still in the hospital.
Since the day she had gone to pay his hospital bills, Rebecca hadn’t visited him again. She continued visiting the two bodyguards, but she never went back to the ICU area.
On New Year’s Eve, Josette suggested visiting the two injured bodyguards and livening up the mood. She prepared gifts and delicacies.
Rebecca noticed there were four boxes, which didn’t make sense. Even counting Vance, there were only three people.
It turned out Vance had already been moved out of the ICU the day before and transferred to a regular room on the same surgical floor as one of the bodyguards.
Josette was delighted. “I was planning to ask Anna or a nurse to pass it on, but now we can go see him ourselves.”
Rebecca’s steps felt heavy as they walked toward Vance’s room. She still hadn’t figured out the right way to face him.

Tourte leaned in and asked softly, “Does it hurt?”
The rims of his eyes reddened. “No, it doesn’t.”
lissette didn’t mention anything painful. She simply smiled and placed the homemade dishes on the bedside table. “It’s the New year, and I made some Soliaridge specialties. This time of year, you need something warm and familiar.”
Thank you,” Vance said hoarsely.
Sally child, if it hurts too much, you don’t have to talk. I understand,” she said gently, then took out a box and placed it on the able. “It’s New Year’s Eve today. Everyone gets a little gift. May you have a long, healthy, and prosperous life.”
ance couldn’t hold it in anymore. His eyes squeezed shut, tears slipping out from the corners.
Thank you. I’ll be okay,” he murmured, his lips trembling.
t saying that short sentence seemed to drain all his strength.
Josette dabbed at his eyes with a soft tissue. “Don’t be sad, child. Get better. I’ll cook for you again.”
