After several laps, Vance suddenly turned and early collided with Darren, who was also pacing.

He noticed that Darren looked just as visibly anxious as he was.

Darren paused. “Let’s wait until she comes out.”

Vance nodded. “Okay.”

They both fell into a heavy silence, but every second felt like torture. Eight hours later, Blake finally emerged from the operating room. The two boys rushed over together.

He looked tired but relieved. “The surgery was a success.‘

Joy exploded across both their faces; their eyes shone with emotion. From now on, it was all about recovery.

When Irene woke up, she urged them to go back to school. “The caregiver is here. She’s very responsible, kind, and patient. You two should focus on your studies.

“If you stay here, I’ll feel uneasy and won’t recover well. And don’t worry about groceries or cooking.”

Although Vance was still reluctant, under his grandmother’s repeated insistence, he finally left the hospital with Darren.

On the way out, Vance thanked Darren once again. “I know this kind of illness is usually discovered too late. My grandma was lucky that it was caught during the community screening and that your great–uncle performed the surgery.”
