Chapter 688

Vance remained silent, looking down at her.

“Does it hurt?” Rebecca said, embarrassed by how strange she must seem.

Only she knew the secret in her heart, and it was something she could never clarify in this world.

He stared at her for a while, then turned and continued toward the mountain gate without a word. Jenny and Jethro were already waiting.

“What took you guys so long?” Jethro complained, loaded down with bags.

“Be a man and stop whining,” Jenny teased him.

Before they could start arguing again, Vance silenced them. “Not here.”

Jenny shot Jethro a sharp look but shut up anyway.

“Should we eat some of this stuff first? It will lighten the load. Aren’t you guys hungry?” Jethro opened one of the bags, handed

out water bottles, and pulled out two boxes of pastries.

“You two share that one.” Jenny took one box and turned to Rebecca. “It’s from Vance’s shop. You’ve never tried his stuff before, have you?”

“Of course not,” Jethro chimed in. “She hasn’t hung out with us in a whole year.”

“Vance’s restaurant?” Rebecca paused, then remembered they were in high school now.
