Chapter 693
Catherine’s eyes flashed with panic for a moment. Then she put on a smile and said warmly, “Hi, Rebecca!”
She sounded perfectly at ease, as if she had never talked behind Rebecca’s back. Rebecca didn’t want to argue with them in the bathroom. She simply walked out.
Later in the cafeteria, she ran into Catherine again
Catherine waved at her like they were old friends, walking right up to her with a bright, practiced smile. “Rebecca, why are you ignoring me? Did you misunderstand what we were saying earlier?”
“What did you say?” Rebecca asked back.
Catherine paused, then laughed it off and reached for Rebecca’s hand. “We weren’t being mean. It’s just that a lot of people have biases against arts students.
“We were only looking out for you. Since Vance and I are both competing anyway, I thought we could practice scripts together.”
Rebecca pushed her hand away. “No, thanks.”
Catherine yelped dramatically, clutching her wrist as if it hurt terribly. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she whimpered, “I really wanted to be friends with you. If you don’t want to, that’s okay. I won’t bother you anymore.”
Rebecca knew this routine all too well. There was no way she’d put on this much of a dramatic performance if there wasn’t an audience.
Sure enough, Vance was standing right behind her. He must have seen the whole thing play out.
If she weren’t wrong, Catherine was going to pull her classic two–faced act and say something like, “Vance, don’t be mad at Rebecca. She didn’t mean it; I was too careless.”
