Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 699

Chapter 699

Catherine was always right in Vance’s mind, and Rebecca always needed to apologize.

So, Rebecca had every reason to think that he had come to stand up for Catherine again. She waited for him to speak.

Sitting across from her, Vance showed a helpless expression. “Why do you always treat me like an enemy?”

She stayed silent, recalling how he had always been like that in another timeline. Seeing Jenny and Jethro returning with the food, he muttered “petty tricks” under his breath and dropped the subject.

“What were you two talking about?” Jenny plopped down in the seat next to Rebecca, practically buzzing with glee. “Reliving how Rebecca crushed you in the speech contest?”

Her smug little expression was so funny that even Vance’s lips curved slightly.

“Sure was,” he said with meaningful undertones. “I was asking her for tips on how she nailed that perfect Paris accent.‘

Jenny’s eyes went starry instantly. “It really was gorgeous! Everyone said it sounded like singing. Rebecca, when did your French get so good?”

Rebecca smiled. “I practiced it in my dreams.”

Jethro, ever the honest one, helped her out. “Her cousin and aunt live abroad long–term, right? She must have practiced with them.”

It was a perfectly reasonable explanation, and both Vance and Jenny had thought the same.

“Vance,” Jenny grinned, “you made a bet with Rebecca, didn’t you?”

Vance nodded, showing no intention of reneging. “I underestimated her. A bet is a bet. I’ll honor it.”

“What do you mean?”

“You know how many times I’ve gone head–to–head with Catherine? I lose every single time. I can’t even get

Vance to expel her, let alone take my side. He’s so biased, but the second you stepped in, he caved.”

“I only did it because of the bet. He agreed to it himself. A man can’t go back on his word, right?”

“Not just that. You don’t know how many times Vance asked me before the contest whether your speech was ready. He made me show it to him and listen to your practice until you had every line memorized perfectly. He was genuinely worried about you.”

The two girls walked lap after lap around the track. Only when evening study was about to start did they head back to the academic building, still giddy from their win.
