Chapter 738
Vance seemed determined to settle things with her that day. He held up the notebook once again. “Look at this sentence and read it out loud!”
Before Rebecca could respond, he continued, “You know what? It’s too late. You started this game, but ending it is no longer up to you. Read it!”
He had totally lost it.
“Um…” she stammered. “Absolutely… do not like… Vance Bradford.”
He laughed coldly. “I don’t care what was going through your head when you wrote this. After I had already given up, you came back and provoked me.
“You won’t let me do this and that, and now you want to run? Not happening.”
He tore the page out and ripped it into pieces.
“Wait…” She felt she needed to make things clear. “Listen to me. I really didn’t mean it that way. I just know what kind of person Catherine is. As a friend, I didn’t want you to be tricked by her, so…”
He listened quietly with an expression that clearly said, “Keep making stuff up.”
She felt helpless. “I’m not lying. I could never like you.”
In another world, she was already in her thirties. How could she fall for a high school student?
The manic energy in Vance’s eyes instantly died out, turning utterly dark and hollow. She looked at his hurt expression and
wanted to offer some sort of comfort.
In their five years of marriage, he had never kissed her so gently. The few times it happened, he had been inexplicably angry and met with her fierce resistance.
The concept of resisting finally registered in her shocked brain. But before she even started to push him away, he pulled back on his own.
An astonishing blush spread rapidly from the base of his neck, up to his ears, and across his entire face, even tinting the corners of his eyes. All the anger and aggression from moments ago had vanished in that clumsy, innocent kiss.
“S-Surry. I..” he stammered, his voice barely audible.
In the end, he couldn’t finish his sentence. As a teenager, he was so unblemished
“Let’s go get some food,” he managed, turning away awkwardly. “Jenny said you hadn’t eaten yet. I-I’ll take you to the cafeteria.
Before she could react, his hot, sweaty palm locked around her fingers as he started to guide her back along the deserted pathway.
