Five Years of Marriage to Mr. Bradford (by Koi Fish) novel Chapter 743

The bell for the evening study hall cut through the moment.

Rebecca quickly pulled away from Vance's embrace. She wiped the tears from her face and ran off. "Time for class!"

Vance watched her retreating figure, pressing his hand to the spot her tears had soaked. A helpless, slightly bitter smile appeared on his face.

"What should I do? Hold on to you or let you go?" he murmured.

Rebecca hurried back to the classroom. When she took her books out of her desk, her eyes were once again drawn to the sparkling bracelet on her wrist.

Even though it was just a thin chain, it felt unusually heavy. According to Vance, her name was engraved on the clasp.

She turned it over and saw the tiny letters: Becky. She stared at them, lost in thought.

In two different worlds and two different lives, Vance had never called her that intimately. "Becky" was a nickname reserved for her closest family members.

It didn't belong to Vance, who had always addressed her properly and formally, without the slightest hint of affection. And she had done the same in return.

...

The next morning, she and Jenny went to the cafeteria during peak hours. Almost every table had been occupied.

Jenny pointed at one table. "Look, they're over there! Come on, let's sneak up and scare them."

Vance and Jethro were sitting in a four-seater that had two empty spots. Jenny pulled her along, tiptoeing toward them.

The cafeteria was loud and crowded, so the two boys didn't notice them approaching at all.

"Ridgewood High invited us to play at their school this Sunday afternoon," Jethro said enthusiastically, still buzzing from yesterday's game. "We already agreed."
