Rebecca didn't bother with Dina anymore. She ran outside to answer. "Gabe, you're back in the States? When did you get here?"
"Today," Gabriel replied. "Are you free to have dinner together?"
"Yeah!"
"Come out."
"Huh?"
Rebecca ran downstairs, surprised he was already there. She sprinted through the school gate and found his car parked in the shade across the street.
The window rolled down, revealing Gabriel's sharp profile and smiling face. He got out of the car, and she jogged over. "Why didn't you go home for dinner?"
She always felt naturally close to Gabriel. In the other world, they had lived together for many years as a real family.
"I was passing by and wanted to see your school," he replied, reaching out to fix her wind-tousled bangs. "What would you like to eat?"
"Somewhere nearby? I have an evening study hall soon," she mused. "There is a nice restaurant by the back gate."
"Alright," he chuckled. "Other people are desperate to treat me, but when I offer to treat you, you set a time limit."
She burst out laughing.
Since the restaurant was nearby, Gabriel parked the car and took a walk with her. During the meal, she was shocked to learn that he was the donor of those buildings.
"What?" she gasped, dropping her fork.
"Is there a problem?" he chuckled, amused by her reaction. "Don't you like it?"
"No, not really." Rebecca waved her hand. "I'm just surprised. Are you that rich already?"
