On the stage, music played. The leaders and guests were taking their seats. The ceremony was about to begin.
Principal Javier came backstage for one final check and was surprised to see Dina holding the bouquet. His brow furrowed, and he questioned the student council member, "Wasn't Rebecca supposed to present the flowers?"
The latter stiffened, then glanced at the dean. Javier understood immediately. "Your idea?"
Sweat beaded on the dean's forehead. He forced a smile. "Well... Rebecca's been involved in so many scandals lately. And just yesterday, someone took photos of her acting intimately with a man.
"The rumor that she's being kept has spread all over campus. Letting her present flowers wouldn't convince anyone. It would only embarrass us in front of the guests, right?"
"You..." Javier held back his anger, knowing better than to argue now. He took a deep breath and turned to the student council member. "Where's Rebecca?"
"She already went back to class," the latter answered quietly, glancing at the dean again.
Right then, the host's enthusiastic voice rang out over the microphone, announcing the start of the ceremony and inviting the leaders and guests to be seated.
It was too late to call Rebecca back. Javier could only let it go. "Proceed for now. Make sure nothing else goes wrong."
Dina clutched the bouquet that should have been Rebecca's, nervous yet excited as she waited at the side of the stage.
Catherine had promised her a new phone as long as she could embarrass Rebecca at the ceremony. Now everything had gone smoothly as planned.
Rebecca sat with her class, looking through the crowd toward the stage. She wondered what Gabriel looked like today, only to find the guest seats still empty.
Javier came out from backstage. Not seeing the donor, he had the school promotional video played and started to contact Gabriel.
