Liam’s POV
Willy nodded. A trace of bitterness flashed in his eyes. “I get it sir. I’m not requesting anything from you. I merely believed it was crucial that you were aware of the truth.
Emily isn’t merely exhausted. She appears confused.”
Quietness remained for moments.
The gentle buzz of the air conditioner occupied the space like a burden settling in.
“And I need to be truthful, “Willy murmured softly. “Our reason for becoming the group of managers wasn’t for the
– paycheck. We simply didn’t want her to collapse entirely without anyone realizing.”
I gazed at him attempting to discern the honesty on his face. An unexpected feeling of admiration welled up inside me. He wasn’t talking as a member of the agency.
He was expressing himself as a person who truly cared.
“I know you put your effort in,” I remarked.
Willy lowered his head. “Thanks. However we’re uncertain about any options. If she rejects schedules more or vanishes again the agency might be unable to safeguard her.”
That phrase struck me more deeply than I had anticipated.
Although I no longer loved her it was hard to imagineEmily, who once glowed brilliantly and assuredly now moving forward unsupported weighed down by unhealed scars.
“Mr. Liam,” Willy went on now, speaking carefully, “I’m not requesting you to return. I understand it’s not my position. It’s just that if one day she requires someone to encourage her to continue, perhaps she still trusts that you can.”
averted my eyes. His words stirred something within me drawing me toward the past yet my body instinctively resisted. I refused to return. I would never return.
My life is at home with Sienna and Noah.
“Willy,” I murmured gently “l’ve done all I’m to do.! arrived. I ensured she’s secure. Yet I can’t do anything beyond that.”
He gave a nod, apparently comprehending despite the fact that accepting that reality was evidently difficult, for him.
“Very well, sir. I will keep looking after her. Should there be any updates i will notify the agency.”
“Has she always been like this?” I inquired.
“No.” Willy immediately shook his head. “Initially she was quite professional. A perfectionist, yet still controllable.
However, over the few months she began to change.”
The breakup.I vividly recall how Emily abandoned me suddenly to pursue her new job overseas.
When she came back she brought explanations that Lacked logical attempts to defend her choice.
I gulped nervously.
“I hadn’t anticipated her state worsening this much,” | whispered to myself.
Willy glanced at me uncertainly. “Mr. Liam, I’m not trying to criticize anyone. However Emily appears not to have healed from something.”
I kept quiet.
“Occasionally,” Willy murmured, “she utters your name while asleep. Occasionally she mentions that her life stopped when you departed.”
His words constricted my chest. A part of me longed to be angry since I was the one abandoned at that time. Yet human feelings are not that straightforward.
I gently moved my head side to side. “No. I’ve fulfilled my role.”
Willy gave a nod. “I get it.”
I hesitated briefly before I opened the door.”Look after her well.” I said.
“We’ll do our best, sir,” he answered earnestly.
With strides I exited the room abandoning a past that, at last, ceased to bind me.
Once the door clicked shut behind me the heater’s buzz diminished to a whisper. The hospital hallway lay silent, the lights throwing elongated shadows across the ground.
Each step I made resonated deep within me not from doubt. Due to the end of something that had weighed on me for an extended period.
I passed by nurses wheeling medicine carts. They ignored me. Oddly that brought a sense of comfort. Life continued onward despite my feelings having just been unsettled.
The elevator doors slid open revealing no one. I. Tapped the button for the ground level. Once the doors sealed shut a thick quietness enveloped me urging me to contemplate the events.
Willy’s eyes conveyed more than work-related thoughts.
They held anxiety, a sense of despair.. I understood the reason. Emily was no longer the person she used to be. No longer the woman who once strode with her head held high brimming with self-assurance, who once captivated me with her passion. The woman in that room was simply a reflection of the resilience she once possessed.
Soon as the elevator doors slid open and the night breeze flowed in from the lobby I took a deep breath. The aromaof disinfectant gradually disappeared, giving way to the chilly night air.
I walked down the small steps toward the lobby. A few people sat waiting, their tired faces illuminated by dim lights. I didn’t know them, but for a moment, I felt a strange sense of solidarity. Everyone here was fighting something unseen.
The glass doors slid open as I walked out. The night breeze hit my face, sharp and chilly. The parking area lights reflected off the rain- pavement.
