From Best Friend To Fiancé (Savannah and Roman) novel Chapter 264

**Chapter 155: You Heard Me**

Savannah

It was a grave miscalculation on my part to believe that Reese would adhere to even the most basic of boundaries. The man had a complete disregard for the concept of restraint. I had made it abundantly clear: stay out of my way, grant me the space I needed, and for the love of all that is sacred, don’t even cast a glance in my direction if he valued any semblance of peace within this household. Yet here he was, casually leaning against the kitchen counter as if he owned the place, a smug statue observing my every movement as I prepared breakfast.

His gaze was intense, fixed on me like I was some intricate puzzle he was determined to decipher. I could feel the weight of his stare pressing down on me, a palpable pressure that made my skin crawl even before I turned to face him.

“Cut that out, asshole,” I snapped, my voice sharper than I intended as I spread butter over the bread with a force that was more aggressive than necessary. “Stop looking at me. You’re making me uncomfortable.”

He didn’t flinch or look away. Instead, a slow, infuriating smile spread across his face. “Your eyes are blue,” he remarked nonchalantly, as though we were engaged in a casual conversation about the weather.

I halted mid-motion, my heart racing as I glared over my shoulder at him. “No, they’re not. They’re grey.”

“No,” he insisted, tilting his head slightly, his gaze still scrutinizing me. “They’re blue. Just so light that you mistake them for grey. If the sun hit them just right, you’d see it.”

I slammed the butter knife onto the counter with a clatter that echoed in the kitchen. “You’re not supposed to be anywhere near me, Reese. Get lost.”

His smile remained, slow and maddeningly smug. “You’re hurting my feelings, sister-in-law. Did you get a restraining order against me?”

“I swear, I’ll tell Roman if you don’t back off right now. I mean it.” My voice was clipped, trembling with a blend of exhaustion and anger that threatened to overflow.

He raised his hands in a mock gesture of surrender, finally leaning away from the counter. “Okay, fine. No need to get all riled up. I’ve never been one to force my women—they always come willingly.”

That was the moment it all spiraled. His lazy drawl, the arrogance dripping from his words—it struck a nerve I didn’t even know was raw. Without thinking, the words tumbled out of my mouth like a reckless confession.

“You heard me,” I replied, stepping back instinctively.

He stood there, breathing heavily, his jaw clenched as if he were fighting against the urge to unleash something violent—something we would both regret. Then, with a bitter laugh, he raked his hands through his hair. “I planned to get rid of my own blood brother? Are you psychotic or just delusional? Who the hell fed you that ridiculous story, huh, Savannah?”

“Stand back, Reese. Do not come near me.” I took another step back, my pulse racing, thudding against my throat. The stairs were to my right—Roman was still upstairs, probably blissfully unaware, lost in the shower, while his brother was unraveling down here.

But Reese didn’t heed my warning. He advanced another step. “You’re out of your mind. You conjure up this fantasy about me wanting to kill my brother, and you think I’ll just let that slide?” He laughed again, but it was hollow, a cracked echo of his earlier bravado. “What the hell are you on? Molly? And here I was thinking Roman finally made a smart choice.”

“YOU’RE the one who’s out of your mind,” I hissed, my voice rising. “You were sleeping with your brother’s wife, so don’t try to act innocent. You disgust me, Reese. And don’t ever think I’ll be as foolish as Dahlia was—to be seduced by you.”

The color drained from his face, leaving him looking almost ghostly. For a fleeting moment, he appeared less than human—just a chaotic blend of rage and heartbreak, molded into something entirely unreadable. Then, before I could process his next move, he closed the gap between us.
