Chapter 455
Chapter 257: Lauren White
Reese
The first thing I noticed when Savannah walked in wasn’t exactly her. It was her dress.
It clung to her like it had been stitched onto her body with intention–not modest, not careless
either, but deliberate. Too deliberate.
I didn’t send that. And that thought alone made my aw tighten.
Asking her where she got it from or why she was wearing it would have seemed some kind of way. Possessive. Controlling. And more than anything, utterly embarrassing for her in front of people who were already watching too closely. So I kept my mouth shut, forcing my expression into something
neutral, blank.
Until…
Randall asked her to move over to the right.
That was when I knew.
That asshole just wanted to hear her speak. I bet his twisted mind got off on that. He wanted to hear her voice. He wanted to hear her soft, feminine, vulnerable voice in a crowded room. He had no right to be hungry for something he had no right craving in the first place.
And what better way to hear Savannah speak than to agitate her? To put her on the spot and watch
her respond.
The neckline dipped lower than anything I would have ever given her to wear. That dip was something I’d never allow. Not in a house swarming with men who had little to no control over their own actions, men whose eyes lingered too long, whose thoughts were rarely decent.
And I wasn’t excluded from that list.
And judging from how Savannah looked like she was about to throw up and pass out all at once, she knew it too. She sensed it. The shift in the air. The attention that suddenly sharpened, cutting into

Savannah knew that Randall had his eyes on her. And I was left wondering how the hell I hadn’t
seen that twist coming sooner.
How I’d been blind enough to think I could walk her into a room like this and not have that predator
notice her.
“I would have assumed you’d stay back in Philadelphia, take over Roman’s life,” my father said
calmly. “And even his woman.”
The words sliced through my thoughts, yanking me violently out of the memory and back into the
present.
I looked up sharply, my mind dragged away from breakfast and that damn dress and Randall’s gaze.
“Why would I want to take over my own brother’s life?” I asked, irritation seeping into my tone
before I could stop it.
He leaned back in his seat like we were discussing business over tea instead of dissecting betrayal and blood. “I was informed that you and his woman were alone in her bedroom while she was… indecent,” he said, pausing like he was searching for the least offensive word.
As if any word would make that sentence less insulting.
I knew exactly what he was referring to.
That night. The night I returned to the manor. The night that had already been twisted and exaggerated into something ugly.
“That’s misleading. We just talked. Nothing happened,” I replied casually, even though the lie tasted bitter on my tongue. “And this time, I’m not going to bother about what you think. I’m not defending myself over something that isn’t true.”
His lips curved slightly, amused. “You still kept your end of the bargain,” he said slowly. “You brought her here.”
My body went rigid.

I’d completely forgotten about that stupid agreement. The one we made when I was desperate to leave this dungeon and he was desperate to get his hands on Savannah for whatever reason.
“I didn’t keep to any bargain,” I clarified sharply, “ge came here of her own free will. I had no hand
in that. Besides, I wasn’t the one who put him in a coma.”
