From Betrayal to Brilliance Her Rise to a New Life novel Chapter 314

**TITLE: Her Rise 314**
**Chapter 314 The Seed of Doubt**

Kate had approached them with a warm and inviting demeanor, her smile radiating kindness as she spoke. She reassured them that if they consented to allow Athena to perform the surgery, a significant portion of the medical expenses would be covered.

Herbert and Trina were deeply moved by her generosity. They felt as though they had encountered a truly compassionate doctor and, without hesitation, agreed to her proposal.

“Dr. Warner was just here,” Trina mentioned, her voice tinged with a hint of relief. “She told us not to fret; everything is set for tomorrow. After the surgery, you’ll be back on your feet in no time.”

In that moment, they found solace in each other’s presence. The heavy burden that had been weighing down their hearts began to lift, allowing a glimmer of hope to shine through.

Just then, a soft knock echoed through the room.

Maya entered with a calm composure and a polite smile that masked her true intentions. “Hello, I’m Professor Rice. You must be the couple scheduled for surgery tomorrow?”

Herbert and Trina, assuming she was yet another doctor checking in, welcomed her with open arms.

“Yes, Professor Rice,” Trina replied, her eagerness palpable. “Dr. Warner came by earlier to check on us. She assured us that everything is fine, and now we just need to rest and wait for the operation.”

Maya’s eyes flickered with a knowing glint. So, it was indeed Kate who had paved the way for Athena.

Suppressing her inner thoughts, Maya maintained a faint smile, saying, “Our doctors are quite skilled. I trust you know who will be performing the operation, correct?”

Trina blinked, her mind racing as she tried to recall the name.

What was it again? She remembered Dr. Warner mentioning it, but it slipped from her grasp like sand through her fingers.

Trina hesitated, grappling with the elusive name. “Oh, right… the doctor’s name is… D-Dr. Hall!” she finally blurted out, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

“She’ll be the one operating on my husband,” she added, her heart racing with a mix of hope and anxiety.

A sly smile crept onto Maya’s lips as she let out a dramatic sigh. “Dr. Hall isn’t bad, but… oh, never mind.”

Suddenly, she covered her mouth, as if she had revealed too much. Rising quickly, she added, “Oh dear, look at me running my mouth again. Forget I said anything. You two should get some rest. I’ll be on my way.”

With that, Maya stood poised to exit the room.

But Kate had assured them that the surgeon was experienced and trustworthy. If that was the case, then Kate had deceived them.

Panic began to swell in Trina’s chest, and her trust started to waver.

At that moment, Maya pulled out her phone, her fingers deftly navigating the screen. She found a video of Athena conducting a simulated surgery overseas and handed it to Trina.

“Take a look,” Maya said smoothly, her voice dripping with feigned concern. “This is the doctor who’s supposed to operate on your husband. See? She can’t even hold the scalpel steady.”

Maya observed their reactions closely. When she noted the shock and anger etching themselves onto their faces, a triumphant smirk curled her lips.

“I’m not trying to scare you,” she continued, her tone deceptively sweet. “I just think you deserve to know the truth. If something goes awry during the surgery, there’s nothing anyone can do. You’ll have to sign a risk waiver before the operation, and once that’s done, you can’t complain afterward. Even if something terrible happens, you’ll have to accept it.”

Trina’s anger ignited like a flame.

Her face darkened as she declared with conviction, “That Professor Warner! She lied to us! She said this doctor was excellent, but she can’t even hold a scalpel? What are we, test subjects?”

Her voice trembled with emotion as she continued, “If Herbert dies on the table, what am I supposed to do? If we skip the surgery, maybe he could live a few more years, but if we go through with it tomorrow, who knows what’ll happen?”
