“Patch things up?” Riley’s smile vanished in an instant, her eyebrows pulling together. “Mr. Torres, do you think I’m out of my mind? Why would I go back and pick up the trash?”

Her tone grew sharper as she continued, “Just because a man didn’t have a child with another woman doesn’t make him clean. In my eyes, he was already dirty the moment he decided to trick me into marrying him just to cover up Sophia’s mess. Whether this child exists or not, there’s no redeeming him.”

He settled back into the couch and asked, “So when are you planning to release the report?”

“Release it?” Riley picked up the papers again and gave a faint, knowing smile. “The sharpest knife cuts deepest when it’s least expected.”

She looked up at him, a shrewd gleam in her eyes. “If I tell Lucas the truth right now, wouldn’t that just be helping him cut his losses and walk away scot-free? I’m not that naïve. He wants to play the devoted dad? Let him. The more he invests, the deeper he falls-it’ll only make it more satisfying when I finally throw the truth in his face.”

Sebastian gave a slow nod. He didn’t press further, a silent agreement with her approach.
