After saying that, he turned and left the boutique as well, his tall, straight back carrying an aloof coldness that kept people at a distance.

After leaving the jewelry store, Riley went straight to Lydia’s private practice. Wearing her white coat, Lydia ushered her into the back office upon arrival, took a sealed brown paper bag from the medicine cabinet, and handed it over.

“I specially asked a colleague for help. It’s formulated with the gentlest, highest–quality ingredients to help you gradually rebuild your health. As long as you keep taking it and restore your foundation, there’s still a good chance you could conceive again in the future.”

Seeing the sincerity in Lydia’s eyes, warmth bloomed in Riley’s chest, but she still pushed the bag back.

“This… won’t be necessary for now.” Riley shook her head.

Lydia was taken aback. “Why? Aren’t you…”

“Lydia…” Riley interrupted her, her gaze clear and direct. “Do you have… something that could cause temporary pseudo–allergic symptoms in a short time? Like producing some painless, non–itchy red marks on the skin, without actually causing any real

harm?”

Lydia’s expression shifted instantly. She looked at her friend warily. “What are you planning to do?”

“Don’t ask.” Riley knew her request was unusual, but she didn’t have other options. “Just help me with this. Also, after you prepare it, put it in this wellness supplement pouch. Don’t let anyone notice.”

Despite her doubts and concern, Lydia ultimately chose to trust her.

A little over an hour later, Lydia handed the items to Riley. Inside were several small containers of capsules, cleverly disguised within the supplement packaging.

That evening, Lucas returned to the villa.

As soon as he entered the master bedroom, he caught a strong herbal scent lingering in the air.

He frowned instinctively, his eyes scanning toward Riley, who was sitting at the vanity. “What’s that? Are you sick?”

Riley set down the water glass in her hand and turned around.

A carefully measured blush colored her cheeks. “No. It’s just some wellness supplements. The smell’s a bit strong.”

Lucas understood her intention immediately.

Riley wanted to have his child.

He wasn’t entirely without guilt about the medication he’d secretly given her before to make conception difficult.

But from the moment Jeremy was born, he had held a weakened Sophia in his arms and solemnly promised that in this lifetime, he would only have children with her.

Riley cared for him deeply. After so many years of marriage, she must have been longing for a child of their own all along.

Perhaps… when Jeremy was a bit older, he could find a chance to talk seriously with Sophia.

After all, Riley had a gentle temperament. Even if she did have a child, she would never dare threaten Jeremy’s position in the family.

Giving her a child as compensation might also make her more willing to hold the empty title of Mrs. Ashford until he could finally give Sophia her rightful place.

The herbal scent on Riley had become quite noticeable after several hours..

When she walked downstairs and pulled out her chair at the dining table, Anthea, seated at the head, caught it immediately.

She frowned with displeasure, her critical gaze sweeping over Riley, her tone habitually sharp. “Riley, what is that smell on you? Are you taking some kind of questionable supplements again?”

Everyone else at the table turned their attention to Riley.

Riley settled into her chair.

She calmly picked up her fork and replied evenly, “Anthea, it’s not questionable. It’s a formula I got from a naturopath to help with overall wellness.”

After saying that, she deliberately let her gaze drift over Sophia and Jeremy, a faint, elusive smile curving at the corner of her mouth as she added meaningfully, “After all, seeing Sophia with Jeremy every day makes me a little envious. After so many years of marriage, I’d really like to have a child with Lucas.”

“Clink.” The spoon in Sophia’s hand slipped and fell into her plate with a sharp ring.

A flicker of unease crossed her features.

But before she could speak, Jeremy beside her suddenly erupted.
