“No.” he murmured into her ear, his voice thick with relief. “All that matters is that you’re alright!
From Riley’s broken explanation earlier, he’d already put the pieces together in his head.
Someone had set this up.
They must have paid off that driver, Harvey, in advance–drugging Riley and setting her up to be caught in a compromising situation with him, all to destroy her reputation.
But Riley had found the air freshener in the guest room too strong, and by chance, she’d decided to sleep in the master bedroom instead. That simple choice had let her slip right out of a carefully laid trap.
And Sophia… for some reason, she must have ended up in that room instead, becoming the unlucky fall girl.
So neither of them had betrayed him.
Riley stayed quiet in his arms, tolerating the scent of his cologne that somehow turned her stomach, and pressed softly, “What… what happened?”
But deep in her eyes, a flicker of cold, mocking amusement passed quickly.
She’d already guessed Sophia would try to flip the script and pin this on her.
So she played along–pretending to be out of it the whole time.
After all, the antidote Sebastian gave her had only cleared the dizziness; it couldn’t flush the drug from her
system right away.
Once the hospital’s tox screen came back, she’d have the perfect alibi.
Back at Ashford Villa, Sophia–locked alone in a sitting room–had already overheard the staff whispering that Riley had been drugged and taken to the hospital.
If Riley had been drugged, then Sophia’s whole sobbing act and accusations fell apart.
How could the victim be the one framing someone else?
Thankfully, Caleb had only locked her in the same room as Harvey, without separating them for questioning yet.
This was her last shot.
Ignoring her disheveled state, Sophia quickly shuffled closer to Harvey, who was just as terrified, and hissed instructions into his ear.
Meanwhile, Riley and Lucas had returned to Ashford Villa.
The party had ended badly. Guests were politely shown out with various excuses, and now only the core

Ashford family members remained in the great room.
The crystal chandelier cast a chilly light, making everyone’s faces look tense and severe.
Caleb sat rigidly at the head of the leather sofa, his expression stormy.

Seeing Lucas carefully helping Riley inside, he asked in a low, gravelly voice, “How are you holding up What caused the blackout?”
Lucas promptly relayed everything the doctor had said about the sedative found in her system.
A cold gleam flashed in Caleb’s aged eyes.
“Now that everyone’s here,” he said, voice like steel, “bring those two in.”
Within moments, Sophia and Harvey, both pale as ghosts, were escorted into the room by two security guards.
The second she entered, Sophia’s tears spilled over. She dropped to her knees with a thud, crying out, her eyes red–rimmed, “Grandfather! Lucas! I was set up, I swear! I had nothing to do with this!”
Caleb was irritated by the noise. He scowled, his gaze full of disdain. “Enough! One more word and I’ll have your mouth taped shut!”
Sophia immediately choked back her sobs, biting her lip hard, not daring to make another sound.
Caleb’s hawk–like attention fixed on Harvey, who was shaking like a leaf.
“You drive for this family. What were you doing in Riley’s room? Start from the beginning–and I want the truth.”
Harvey hung his head, trembling. But remembering Sophia’s rushed instructions, he forced himself to stick to their rehearsed story. “It was… Ms. Harper she texted me. Told me to come up and meet her in
private…”
At that he, the room reacted in different ways.
Anthea’s eyes gleamed with smug satisfaction, as if she’d known all along. Lucas‘ face darkened, and he instinctively tightened his grip on Riley’s hand
Only Riley remained completely still the whole time.
She even allowed a faint, indifferent smile. “Is that so? Then where’s the text? You must have the message history, right? Don’t tell me you just happened to delete something that important. But it’s fine–deleted texts can be recovered. We can call the police right now and let them sort it out. How does that sound?”
Harvey’s eyes widened with clear panic and guilt
Seeing him like that. Caleb already had a pretty good idea of the truth.

you’re backed into a corner! I’ll give you one last chance. If you don’t tell the truth now, I’ll have you bundled into a bag and dropped into the middle of the ocean tonight! You know exactly what that means.
That brutal threat shattered the last of Harvey’s composure.
He crumpled to the floor, whole body shaking violently, and began kowtowing desperately. “I talk! I’ll tell you everything! Please, sir, don’t kill me!
“It wasn’t Ms. Harper! It wasn’t her!” Harvey bawled, tears and snot streaming down his face. “Somebody. somebody paid me a lot of cash to do it! They said if I went along with the plan and ruined Ms. Harper’s reputation–got her kicked out of the family for good…”
