Raymond dragged his tone and let out an exaggerated wail over the phone. “Huh? That’s such bad luck. You just got back, and you’re leaving again?”

Leaning back against the sofa, Riley replied casually, “Yeah. I’ve been worn out lately, so I want to go relax for a while.”

Raymond did not know every detail of what Riley had gone through in Havenbrook. Still, he was well aware her trip back home had been far from smooth, filled with countless dangers and twists.

He fel: so guilty that he couldn’t step in and help her through all those tough times.

Raymond let out a soft sigh and said in a gentle voice, “Alright then, go enjoy your trip and ease your mind. By the way… are you going with Sebastian?”

“I am,” Riley admitted openly. She glanced sideways at the calm man beside her out of the corner of her eye, “Who else would I go with besides him?”

“Got it.” Raymond’s voice rose instantly. “Hand the phone over to him. I’ve got a few things I need to tell him personally.”

Riley held back her laughter, passed her phone to Sebastian, and gave him a questioning look to ask if he wanted to take the call.

Ever since Riley had plainly turned down Raymond’s invitation, Sebastian’s mood had brightened up completely..

He nodded gracefully and took the phone.

No one knew exactly what Raymond said to him on the line. Sebastian just listened quietly the whole time, only uttering short replies like “Mm“, “Sure“, and “Don’t worry” every now and then.

He hung up the call without telling Riley anything about their conversation.

In this short span of time, Riley had already picked their travel destination.

She looked at him with bright eyes and said in an expectant tone, “How about heading to Lunbrook? I’ve heard it’s absolutely gorgeous there. The weather stays warm all year round, and I’ve never been there once.”

Sebastian agreed without a single moment of hesitation, “Okay. Whatever you want is fine by me.”

Once they settled on the plan, they moved incredibly fast.

One quick phone call from Sebastian got their private jet, hotel stays, and travel schedule all fully arranged.

They packed light and set off straight away that very afternoon.

Back at Torres Mansion, Miranda heard that Sebastian had safely returned home with Riley. She immediately urged her husband, Wayne Torres, who was stuck in a company meeting, to head back home right away to discuss the young couple’s marriage

matters.

Yet she soon got the news that the two had already left for a trip.

Miranda shook her head, feeling both amused and helpless, though undisguised satisfaction lingered in her eyes.

Seeing how close the young pair were growing, she thought they ought to push their marriage plans forward and give Riley a proper official status.

Even without the two main people around, Wayne and Miranda stuck to their original plan. They set up a dinner meeting with the Harper family inside a private room at an upscale club to sort out all the wedding arrangements first.

That night, Zavier arrived in formal attire together with Raymond, Melissa, and Elsie.

As soon as everyone sat down, Miranda started the conversation warmly and said in a soft, complaining tone, “Those two kids sure left in a hurry. My husband and I even put aside two important meetings just to rush back home, but we still missed them.”

Melissa had only just found out Riley had gone traveling without a word. She kept a polite smile yet said in a disapproving manner, “Indeed. Riley has only been back with the Harper family for a short while. She suffered a lot out there all these years, so she still has plenty of bad habits to fix. She is nothing like Elsie, who grew up right by our side and is always gentle and well–mannered.”

The warm and friendly atmosphere in the private room turned icy cold in an instant.

Melissa paid no mind to the awkward vibe and kept talking, “I hope you won’t take it to heart. I just worry she might end up being a bad influence on Sebastian.”

The smile on Zavier’s face froze at once, and Raymond was the first one to speak up against her.

Raymond said in an upset tone, “Mom, what are you even saying? Riley and Sebastian are just seeing each other normally. There’s no such thing as being a bad influence. You make her sound like she has a terrible personality. I won’t let you talk about her like that.”

Being openly contradicted by her own son in front of the Torres family, Melissa could barely keep her composure.

She turned her head and shot Raymond a sharp glare.

Just as the atmosphere was about to turn tense, Miranda wore her smooth and tactful smile to ease the situation.

“There is no need to say such things,” Miranda said gently with polite kindness. “Sebastian has always been cold and reserved. I’m actually more worried that his dull personality might make Riley feel bored. Besides, I met Riley back in Havenbrook. She is smart, brave, and knows exactly what she wants, and I truly admire her character.”

Her words easily defused Melissa’s subtle attacks, while clearly showing her sincere approval and firm support for Riley.

Elsie had been sitting quietly beside Melissa, acting like a quiet and well–behaved young lady all along. Hearing Miranda praise Riley so openly, she began to sense that things were not going in her favor.
