Chapter 377 Are You Screwing With Me?
The elevator reached the lobby in no time.
He stepped out holding the flowers, his eyes going straight to the front desk.
Then, the smile on his face froze–just like that, out of nowhere.
There was no tall, beautiful woman waiting for him as he’d pictured.
Instead, standing by the desk, beaming at him, was a… middle–aged man.

The guy was maybe in his mid–fortie’s, a little heavy, wearing a neatly pressed tour guide uniform and holding a rolled–up guide flag in one hand.
When he saw Brandon come out, the man immediately walked over warmly, flashed a perfectly practiced smile, and stuck out his hand.““Hello, you must be Mr. Edwards, right?”
Brandon’s face twitched slightly. The bouquet in his arms suddenly felt like it weighed a ton.
He didn’t take the hand. Instead, he furrowed his brows and asked coldly, “Who are you?”
“Oh, I’m Vaughn Jones, a certified top–tier tour guide.” The man didn’t seem bothered by Brandon’s attitude at all. He cheerfully introduced himself. “Ms. Harper specifically hired me as your private, customized guide. For the next few days, I’ll be with you the whole time, showing you the most authentic and interesting parts of the city.”
“Riley?” Brandon practically spat the name out. “Then where is she?
“I couldn’t tell you.” Vaughn gave an amiable shake of his head, then pulled an itinerary out of his pocket and enthusiastically handed it over. “But Ms. Harper has already paid for everything in full. And she made a point of telling me, more than once, to make sure you have a great time and feel completely at home. See? This is our schedule for today–all exclusive routes. I promise you won’t be disappointed.”
Brandon’s eyes locked onto the densely packed itinerary, then moved to the overly enthusiastic certified top–tier guide standing in front of him.
The carefully maintained, elegant smile on his handsome face finally crumbled into nothing but a grim, dark expression.
Riley was sleeping soundly when the sudden, sharp ring of her phone jolted her awake without mercy.
The sound cut through the quiet tent like a knife.

Riley frowned, annoyed. She instinctively pressed closer to the warmth next to her and tried to pull the blanket over her head to block out the noise.
Sebastian, next to her, seemed to have woken up a little earlier.
She felt the arm around her shift slightly. Then, a low, raspy voice sounded right by her ear. “Your phone.”
Only then did Riley reluctantly crack one eye open.
Golden morning light streamed in through the tent’s skylight–a little too bright.

Still half asleep, she sat up groggily and fumbled around the pillow for her phone.
On the screen, the name “Brandon” flashed tirelessly.
Jesus. Can’t get rid of him.
She winced hard but still swiped to answer and put the phone to her ear.

Riley didn’t even get a chance to speak before a gritted voice came through on the other end. “Riley, what is this supposed to mean?”
She was wide awake now.
Without changing her expression, she glanced sideways at Sebastian, who was half–propped up next to her.
He was fully alert now, quietly watching her–his gaze deep and unreadable.
She cleared her throat and made her voice sound convincingly sleepy and innocent. “Huh? Mr. Edwards? It’s so early. What’s wrong? Did the guide… find you?”
“Yes, the guide found me.” In the background, his end of the line still had Vaughn’s enthusiastic commentary going. “A guide who can talk about everything from the creation of the universe to modern city planning. Riley, are you screwing with me?”
“Of course not.” Riley lied without missing a beat, every word dripping with sincerity.
“You’ve got it all wrong. Why would I mess with you? My original plan was to come find you first thing this morning so we could go out and have fun together.” She even threw in a perfectly timed sigh./”But as luck would have it, Raymond called me last night- urgent, super urgent–and dumped a ton of work on me. I’m still at the hotel right now, stuck in the office, drowning in files. I swear –don’t you think my voice sounds a little hoarse?”
The corner of Sebastian’s mouth twitched–just barely, so fast it was almost invisible.
On the other end of the line, Brandon was obviously choked up by her airtight story. After a few seconds of silence, he spoke again, his voice dripping with suspicion. “The hotel’s office? Riley, are you trying to get rid of me because you think I’m getting in the way of you and Sebastian? Do you think I’m a three–year–old?”
“How could you think that about me?” Riley immediately switched to a hurt, wronged tone. “What are we? We’re friends. Why would I try to get rid of you? If you don’t believe me, I’ll text you Raymond’s number right now–you can call him yourself and ask him. Ask him if he told me I absolutely have to finish the first draft of a proposal by today.”
