From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 236

Eleanor felt her anger melt away as soon as the official statement went public.

A minute later, her best friend Yolanda called, already fired up for her. “So, did your husband take care of everything for you?”

Eleanor couldn’t help but laugh. “Yeah, he did.”

Yolanda let out a low whistle. “That’s impressive.”

She sounded genuinely happy for her. “Honestly, I think your second marriage was the right move. Jessie Goff is the worst. Just thinking about the Goff family gets on my nerves. They’re all so weird.”

Eleanor agreed. Some people were just like stubborn flies. No matter how many times you tried to shoo them away, they stuck around.

Yolanda kept going. “I overheard my dad on the phone today. Apparently, Jessie Goff’s father tried to ask him for a favor. My dad, the sly old fox, turned him down right away. I also heard your husband isn’t answering their calls or seeing them. He’s being totally unapproachable. It almost feels like he’s determined to make their lives hell.”

Eleanor frowned. “Taking down a company like Goff Inc. isn’t easy.”

Yolanda nodded, totally serious now. “My dad said the same thing. It’s not like in those cheesy novels where a company vanishes overnight. If you want to bring someone down by the book, it’s tough. Your husband would have to pay a huge price too.”

Hearing that, Eleanor started to worry about Max. Maybe she should talk to him about letting it go.

“But,” Yolanda added, trying to sound reassuring, “my dad also said your husband isn’t the type to lose control. He knows what he’s doing. You don’t need to stress out.”

It didn’t make Eleanor feel much better. Their marriage was just an arrangement, and she already felt like Max had done more than enough. So when Jessie Goff’s number popped up on her phone, Eleanor picked up.

“Eleanor, do you have a minute?”

Jessie could barely keep her voice steady. “Eleanor, don’t you think you’re going too far?”

Eleanor shrugged, totally unfazed. “If you think it’s too much, then we’re done here.”

She was about to hang up when someone else grabbed the phone on the other end.

“Eleanor, sweetheart, this is Otto, Jessie’s father. Don’t hang up. I agree to everything you said. Can you please talk to your company’s management so we can move on from this?”

Sweetheart? Niece? As if. She’d rather have nothing to do with these people.

Eleanor’s voice was icy. “Otto, have them do the apology first. But let me just say, that woman who caused all the trouble didn’t exactly seem clever. Are you sure no one was feeding her ideas?”
