From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 242

George’s decision wasn’t some impulsive move. He’d been thinking about this for a long time. When Peter Clarkson first saved him, George’s kindness was really just a test. But after that, each time they met, George found himself genuinely liking the kid. The rumors about the affair were just that—rumors. Besides, Peter was already divorced.

To be honest, George had his own reasons. Having someone around to play chess with sounded pretty nice. Recognizing Peter as his grandnephew didn’t mean Peter would get a share of the main family’s inheritance. George was clear on that. At most, Peter would just get to use the family’s name to his advantage.

When George announced the news in front of everyone, the whole room went silent.

Marleigh was the first to want to speak up, but what could she say? George had made it public right in front of Peter. Before Peter came back into their lives, her son’s marriage to Peter’s ex-wife could be brushed aside. Now that Peter was officially part of the family, things were about to get awkward.

Hunter glanced quietly at Max. Everyone could feel the tension in the air, except for George, who seemed completely unaware.

Peter didn’t expect instant acceptance. As long as the person who mattered most gave him the green light, he was happy.

Hunter pulled Max out into the garden. “So, when do you plan on telling Dad?”

“After he recognizes Peter,” Max said.

Hunter frowned. “You really want to make this even messier?”

Max looked at him, a little too calm. “Don’t you think it hurts more to fall from way up high?”

Hunter just stared at him. Max was honestly a bit unhinged.

“Whatever. Just go easy, okay? Don’t give Dad a heart attack.”

Max grinned. “Don’t worry. I’ll have his meds ready just in case.”

Hunter waved him off and walked away. No point in arguing. Max had made up his mind.

Eleanor came home and barely had time to set her bag down before Max filled her in.

“Peter’s getting officially welcomed into the family the day after tomorrow.”

Eleanor blinked. “And?”

Max’s smile was pure trouble. “And the day after that, I’m taking you to meet my dad.”

Eleanor stared at him. “Does your dad know about… you and me?”

“Nope.”

Autumn’s eyes widened. “Really? Are you serious?”

Peter laughed. “I wouldn’t joke about this, Mom. The recognition ceremony is the day after tomorrow. Grandpa George is hosting it himself. We’ve finally fulfilled Grandpa’s and Dad’s last wish.”

Autumn felt tears prick at her eyes. After so many years, it was finally happening. It wasn’t that they didn’t have ambition. The Clarkson family was just so old and powerful, while their own branch had always been the outsiders, the ones with the messy background. She couldn’t blame anyone. It was just the way things were. But now, finally, things were changing.

“Peter, should we be getting anything ready?”

Peter shook his head, still grinning. “You don’t need to do anything. Just go out and buy yourself a new dress. Get the nicest one, no matter the price. Take Olga too, she deserves something special. Oh, and Mom, I want to go register my marriage with Jessie.”

Autumn’s smile faded a bit. “Maybe wait a little longer.”

Peter sighed. “Mom, Jessie helped a lot with all of this.”

Autumn knew there was no point pushing back. The marriage was basically a done deal. “Fine. After the recognition ceremony, you can register. That’s my compromise.”

Peter grinned. “Thanks, Mom. I’m going to call Jessie and tell her the good news.”

Jessie Goff, meanwhile, was in a pretty bad mood. First, her family’s company had taken a hit because of Eleanor. Second, her cousin-in-law had started resenting her, and that was making life complicated.
