From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 255

Jessie Goff never thought Autumn would pick today of all days—the day both families finally met—to make things so hard for her.

Back when she married Grady Clarkson, Autumn had been nothing but warm and gracious. Jessie had loved feeling cherished, and her feelings for Grady were real. Sure, the Clarkson family wasn’t exactly powerful back then, but she’d been happy enough. Life after marriage had been smooth, free from the usual mother-in-law drama. The two men in the house adored her, and she got to enjoy being spoiled.

Compared to her, Eleanor’s life looked pretty rough.

That was part of why Jessie agreed to marry Peter Clarkson. She’d get a ready-made child and a thoughtful husband. Even if she and Autumn had clashed a little before, Jessie always figured she could handle it.

She never imagined Autumn would turn on her so fast.

Jessie’s hands shook with anger. “Mom, Grady and I were married. You didn’t say anything when he passed. Why are you dragging all this up now?”

Autumn’s smile didn’t reach her eyes. Back then, the Clarksons hadn’t even been welcomed back into their main family. Things were different now.

“Jessie, don’t get upset. I’m not taking back anything I’ve given you. We just need to talk about what assets you’re bringing into this marriage.”

Otto and his sons looked like they might explode. Adam opened his mouth to argue more than once, but Kennedy’s warning look kept him quiet. If not for that, Adam would have given that old woman a piece of his mind. This was just cruel.

“Mom, is this really necessary?” Peter sounded annoyed.

Autumn didn’t even glance at him. “Stay out of this. Today, I’m in charge.”

Otto could see Autumn wouldn’t let it go unless she got something real out of them. He’d already planned to give Jessie some shares. “Autumn, our families have already been connected before. Jessie already holds five percent of Goff Inc. shares. Tomorrow, I’ll give her another five percent, so she’ll have ten percent total. Does that work?”

Jessie felt a wave of mixed emotions—hurt, but also touched. Her father was always the one who really cared.

Peter went quiet, no comeback left. He told the driver to pull over. “Mom, let the driver take you home. We’re going to talk about this again. From now on, I’m handling the wedding.”

Autumn snorted. “Fine, spoil her all you want. You’ll regret it someday.”

Peter called for another car and headed straight for the Goff house.

Inside the Goff family’s car, the mood was heavy.

“Jessie, has Autumn always been like this?” Adam finally blurted out, unable to hold back.

Jessie pressed her lips together, not wanting to say too much about her in-laws. “She never used to be. I don’t know what got into her today.”
