Katie: Who are you? Do we even know each other?
Shawn Crane: Nope. Guess we can delete each other now.
Katie: ...
She stared at the screen, barely believing it. But sure enough, he’d actually deleted her. Whoever was behind that goofy dog avatar, he was a jerk. No doubt about it.

Autumn kept finding ways to make life miserable for Jessie Goff. No matter how harsh she was, Jessie just took it, never fighting back. Autumn had heart problems and high blood pressure, so she always kept her meds close.
After popping her pills like usual, she settled in for a quick nap. That’s when Jessie burst in, eyes wide with panic, and shut the door.
“Mom, something’s happened. Peter’s been in a car accident.”
“In Eldoria.”
Autumn’s heart skipped a beat. “What? Is it serious? Eldoria is so far away! Why are you standing there? Let’s go, now!”
Jessie’s eyes were red, her voice shaky. “Mom, Peter’s already at the hospital. But you need to prepare yourself. The doctor said… he might not make it.”
Autumn’s world spun. “No. That can’t be true. Nothing can happen to my son.”
She only had two sons. The older one died a few years ago. She couldn’t even imagine losing the younger one too.
Jessie’s phone rang again. She answered, her face shifting from worry to complete despair. The phone slipped from her hand and crashed to the floor.
Autumn clutched her chest, panic rising. “What did they say? Tell me! Jessie, say something!”
Jessie could barely speak through her sobs. “Mom, Peter… Peter’s gone.”
Autumn had been holding herself together, barely, but that was it. Her vision faded to black. She collapsed, hands clutching her chest.
Jessie shook her head. “Peter, I thought she was just sleeping too long. I went to check on her and found her on the floor.”
Four hours crawled by before the surgery ended. The doctor came out, shaking his head.
“She got here too late. We’ve stabilized her, but it’s not likely she’ll ever wake up.”
Peter’s voice shook. “So… you’re saying my mom could just stay like this? Like she’s in a coma? Forever?”
The doctor nodded. “We did everything we could.”
Peter broke down, sobbing. Jessie hugged him, pretending to comfort him. “Peter, don’t be sad. We did everything we could.”
“Even if she’s in a coma, I’ll come see Autumn every single day.”
But inside, Jessie finally felt the tension melt away. It didn’t matter if Autumn was in a coma, as long as she couldn’t speak, that was enough.
