Chapter 19 I Saved You Because You’re Ms Hollis‘ Daughter

With one hand, Leander effortlessly lifted the 140–pound Colton. The shock in Colton’s eyes. was evident–just how strong was this guy?
“Now, fulfill your promise!” Leander demanded, his gaze locked on Colton, whose pupils contracted sharply. He had promised earlier that if he lost, he would apologize to everyone and slap himself. But at the time, he hadn’t believed for a second that Leander could win. Now, having lost so completely, he found it impossible to accept. Apologizing, he could manage, but slapping himself in front of everyone? That was harder than death.
He wanted to go back on his word, but the moment he looked into Leander’s eyes, his body froze. A wave of pure fear washed over him. What kind of eyes were those? Cold, devoid of any emotion, like a demon from the depths of hell. Colton swore he had never seen eyes like those before. He had no doubt that if he tried to back out now, the young man in front of him would become a monster in the next second.
Smack!
The sound echoed through the room, and everyone’s gaze froze in disbelief. Colton had actually started slapping himself.
“I’m sorry!” Colton apologized while continuing to slap his face. He first directed his apology at Madeline and then turned to the rest of the crowd. He slapped himself ten times in total–no more, no less.
As he finished the tenth slap, Leander finally released his grip, his eyes sweeping over the room. “I know you’re upset. I’ll give you a chance. My name is Leander Ashcroft, Class 4 of senior year. If you want revenge, come find me anytime.” His tone was indifferent as he looked at Colton. “But next time, things won’t be this simple.”
With that, Leander gave a slight nod toward Madeline before walking out of the gym. As he moved, the crowd parted to make way for him. Many of the guys looked at him with respect, while the girls were filled with admiration. Leander hadn’t just defeated the entire karate team single–handedly; he had even left his name and class for potential retribution. Such boldness and confidence left everyone in awe.
Madeline stood frozen for a few seconds before quickly running after him.
Back inside the gym, Colton and Victor remained in stunned silence, unable to process what had just happened.
“Man, that was insane!” Liam, standing in the crowd, slapped his forehead. He felt like an idiot for thinking he should waste time learning karate or martial arts when someone like Leander was right beside him the whole time.

“Leander, that was amazing! Did you spend the past few years training in martial arts?” Madeline curiously asked as she followed Leander, eager to know what he had been up to.
“Martial arts? Something like that,” Leander smiled faintly, not offering much explanation. Over the years, he had danced on the edge of life and death countless times, eventually creating his own martial technique, “Devourer’s Ninefold Path.” But if he were to explain that to Madeline, she’d only be confused and worried.
As they reached the school gate, Madeline went to a nearby convenience store to buy something while Leander entered a restaurant to wait. Just as he sat down, two familiar figures walked in.
“Leander!”
He looked up to see Yvette Sitwell and Ginny Lancaster standing across from him.
“Can I help you?” He tilted his head slightly, his tone indifferent.
“Well…” Yvette felt awkward, guilt flashing across her face. “About yesterday–thank you. We happened to run into you today, so as a thank–you, we’d like to treat you to dinner.”
Despite her gratitude, her manner remained as haughty as ever. She was still every bit the proud heiress, even in moments like this.
Ginny chimed in, “Leander, you saved us. It’s only right that we take you out. Let’s go somewhere nicer!”
Several students from Ravenridge Senior High were eating at the same simple diner, and when they heard Ginny and Yvette inviting Leander to dinner, envious glances were immediately cast his way. Yvette and Ginny were two of the school’s most famous beauties, and Yvette was widely regarded as the campus queen, on par with Madeline. Only the likes of Shiloh and a few other school icons had ever come close to them before. No one had ever heard of them inviting a guy out for a meal. So, it was only normal that they’d be envious.
Everyone expected Leander to gladly accept, but to their surprise, he waved his hand dismissively. “No need,” he said, his voice cool and casual. “I saved you because you’re Ms. Hollis‘ daughter. You don’t need to thank me.”
He then looked at Ginny and added in the same tone, “As for you, it was just a coincidence.”
The atmosphere froze. Two of the school’s most beautiful girls had just invited Leander to dinner, and he had turned them down–so decisively!
Yvette and Ginny’s faces both stiffened in shock. They had assumed Leander would happily agree to their offer, but his response was beyond anything they’d expected.
The situation felt absurd. They were the top beauties of Ravenridge Senior High, girls who

were always treated with kindness and admiration by the boys around them. Yet here they were, personally inviting Leander to dinner, only to be coldly rejected. Their pride took a
massive hit.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Yvette hadn’t even spoken yet when Ginny burst out angrily. “Just because you saved us doesn’t mean you get to act all high and mighty! So, you’re good at fighting, big deal! What’s with the attitude? You’re still eating in this cheap diner where a meal costs like, what, ten bucks? If you don’t want our treat, fine! I don’t care anymore!”
Ginny stormed out of the restaurant, furious. Leander’s casual dismissal of her as “just a coincidence” had completely set her off.
Yvette, however, stayed behind, her gaze lingering on him. “So, you saved me just because you know my mom?” she asked quietly. “If you didn’t know her, would you have left me there?”
Leander nodded bluntly. “Yes.”
He wasn’t lying. The only reason he had stepped in to save Yvette was because of Monica. Years ago, Monica had given him some money–not a lot, but enough to help him through the hardest time in his life. He had never forgotten that kindness. Since Yvette was her daughter, he couldn’t stand by and let her get hurt, knowing how devastated Monica would be. But if it had been anyone else, he wouldn’t have cared. Outside of those close to him, he believed that life and death followed their natural course, and he didn’t intend to intervene.
Hearing Leander’s answer, Yvette turned completely cold.
