That sentence echoed in my head all the way to the field where the wedding would be taking place. My mind was so occupied that I didn’t realise I was already face–to–face with Damon.

After I came back ti reality, I gave myself time to look at him, really look at him. He looked so good; he wore a suit that made him sharp and dapper, and his eyes, hidden behind sunglasses, were set on me. He was looking at me like a hawk, but I tried ti avoid his gaze because they always made me feel a certain way.

“The blood of our King and that of the future Queen will not be mixed,” the elder said. A woman wearing white appeared out of nowhere. I didn’t recognise the woman, but she looked scary. She was wearing all white, her hair was braided, and her face was painted white. She looked like she wanted to beat me.

Yeah, she had a stern expression on her face.

“It’s time for the priestess to mix the blood,” the elder announced again, and the woman placed her hand in front of me, signifying for me to put my hand in hers, and I did. Without thinking twice, this woman used a sharp knife to split my palm tissue into two, and I winced.

I watched as dark red spewed from the injury, then she turned my palm toward the silver cup that was glowing. While she was done, she also did the same to Damon, and a look of pain didn’t even cross his expression as the woman cut his palm. He must have gone through much worse than this, I remembered the scars I saw on his back the other night that we were together.

“It’s time to drink,” the priestess muttered and shook the silver cup to mix the blood. This was a known culture to me, and legends have it that the blood of these two people is very powerful, and if ordinary people drank it, they would become powerful.
