“I know, I know.” Suddenly, my sixth sense felt something immediately; something was beating inside her. Without thinking, I held her back slightly and looked into her eyes.

“You’re pregnant?” I asked, and she looked at me in confusion.

“What? What do you mean? No, of course not. Why would I be pregnant?” she said with a smile that made me know that she didn’t know. She didn’t actually know she was pregnant,

“But you are,” I told her, and she frowned.

“No, I’m not Eloise. I’m sure that I’d know if I was ti he pregnant,” she said, drinking her coffee.

“Let’s get out of here,” I said and pulled her up, dragging her out of the cafe.

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“To the pharmacy.” This whole situation has already made me forget about everything else I was worried about before I stepped

into the cafe.

“Eloise, I promise you. I really am not pregnant. You know I would have called you and told you,” she said, but I wasn’t convinced. I knew what I had heard, and I was sure she was pregnant.

“Let’s just go and confirm,” I told her, and she nodded as I opened the car door for her.

“Okay, if you say so,” she said with a strained smile.

After we were attended to, we went to the restroom, and she couldn’t wait. I could tell she was nervous, but she kept telling me that she couldn’t be pregnant because they were careful.

She went into one of the stalls to pee on the stick. After a few minutes, I heard the toilet flush, and she came outside. She placed the stick on the counter, and we both waited. We waited and waited. We didn’t say a thing, I was sure of it, but I didn’t want her to crash out when she finds out that she is.

“Oh, my God. My God,” she started panicking when the test showed positive.

She started pacing. “No, no, no. That’s wrong, it can’t be right,” she said, frantically tearing into another pack and going into one of the stalls to pee on it.

When she came back out, it was positive. We went through that procedure for about three more times, and she was about to go in for like the sixth time when I held her hand. It was time to let her know she was actually pregnant.

“Alexis,” I called her full name calmly. She was looking at me, but it felt like she was looking through me.

“Alexis,” I called again, and she shook before actually focusing her gaze on me.

“Yes,” she answered slowly.

“Using these tests multiple times will not prove that you’re not pregnant. It will not change the truth, and the truth is that, Lex, you’re pregnant.”
