Chapter 32 Help Me!

ELOISE.

5

The rain wasn’t just falling anymore; it was attacking the earth. Sheets of water slammed against the shelter I had just built, and the wind was screaming through the trees like a wounded beast.

Where is Summer?one of the girls shouted over the noise.

I’ve been avoiding thinking about her, but now that the girls were asking where she was, I didn’t have a choice but to go out and look for her.

Fuck, she should have just listened, I don’t understand the reason she had not to listen.

I’ll go get her,I said simply.

Eloise, you can’t go outside this way; it’s already raining so hard, and a storm is coming,Chloe said.

I have to go find her, though. We will be back.

But the drones are not functioning anymore, it’s dangerous, you can’t just go back out there.

I looked back at the dark, swirling forest; my mind was screaming for me to go and find Summer, while my head was screaming for me to stay put. I had done my part; I had warned that bitch, if she wanted to eat poison and wander off, that was on her.

But that feelingthat damn pull in my chestwasn’t letting up. It felt like a physical hook in my heart, dragging me back towards the woods.

Fuck!I spat, wiping the rain from my eyes.

Stay here, keep the fire covered if you can. And you all should stay safe; I have the logs arranged and our bed space secured. The fort is strengthened, so y’all should stay inside and be together. Before they could argue or hold me back, I bolted.

The woods were a nightmare. The ground had turned into a slick, muddy trap, and every step was a struggle. If I wasn’t careful, I could fall facefirst. My boots skidded on wet leaves, and branches whipped my face, stinging my skin.

Summer!I yelled, my voice swallowed by a massive crack of thunder. Summer, where the fuck are you?

I followed the sound of a faint and pathetic wail; my wolf was doing a great job at straining her ears to try to find where the sound was coming from, After walking for what felt like hours, I found her about a half mile in, curled up at the base of a jagged rock. She looked like a drowned rat, and this scene in front of me would make me laugh any day, were we under different circumstances.

Her face was pale, and she was clutching her stomach, her body shaking with violent tremors. The crimson juice of those berries was still smeared on her chin, looking like dried blood in the lightning flashes. Her skin had red blotches all over, and I knew that it was the reaction of the forbidden fruit she had taken.

She needed to be treated immediately.

You look so pathetic.I made sure to say before walking towards her.

My stomach…” she wheezed, her eyes rolling back. It feels likelike something hot is in my stomach.

I told you,I growled, kneeling beside her. I didn’t have time to be nice. I told you those grapes would fuck you up; you’re lucky

Shut up,she groaned, though she didn’t have any strength to put real heat behind it. Just shut upand help me.

I grabbed her arm and hauled her up She was dead weight, her ego finally crushed by the agony in her gut. I slung her arm over my shoulder, my muscles straining. The storm was getting worse, and the trees were swaying so hard I thought they’d snap and crush us both.

We have to move. Now!

We were staggering back towards base, fighting against the mud, when the earth literally gave way beneath us. The heavy rain had turned the edge of the woods into a death trap. I felt the grounds shift under my boots. It wasn’t just a slip; the whole edge was collapsing.

Watch out,I screamed.

tried to push Summer towards solid ground, but she panicked. She grabbed onto me, her nails digging into my skin and dragging is both down. We slid down the steep, muddy embankment.

reached out, my fingers clawing at anything, rocks, roots, weeds. My hand caught a thick and wild vine. And I jerked to a halt, my shoulder nearly popping out of its socket. With my other hand, I lunged forward and grabbed Summer’s wrist just as she was about o plummet into the black void of the canyon below.

We were dangling, the rain was blinding, and the wind was trying to rip us off the cliff side.

Hold on!I roared, my teeth grinding together.

My fingers were bleeding, sliced open by the jagged rocks, and the salt from the rain made the wounds burn like hell.
