Chapter 38

Eric’s POV

¢7@)

I stood in the hallway, staring at the empty space where Julia had just been. The sound of her footsteps on the stairs echoed in my ears as

she retreated with her boyfriend.

A strange mixture of anger and something that felt uncomfortably like guilt churned in my stomach. I shook my head. I had done nothing

wrong-Julia was the one bringing shame to our family with her ridiculous attachment to Daniel.

My phone buzzed with a text from Lisa. I pulled it out, and my irritation melted away instantly at the sight of her name.

Missing you. When will you be here?

I had originally planned to finish packing my overnight bag before heading to see my mate, but after the confrontation with Julia, all I

wanted was to escape this house and the confusion it stirred in me.

Leaving now, I texted back, decision made.

As I grabbed my keys and jacket, memories of meeting Lisa flooded my mind. We had encountered each other at a regional pack gathering

yesterday. The moment our eyes met across the crowded room, I knew. Her eyes had sparkled like forest jewels, and my heartbeat had

nearly burst through my chest.

My wolf, Maddox, had practically howled with recognition, the mindlink between us instantly filled with urgent desire. Mate. Mark her.

Claim her.

I remembered the way I’d barely been able to form coherent sentences then, how I’d stumbled over simple words while Lisa had smiled at

me patiently, her own wolf clearly experiencing the same pull.

Now, as I climbed into my Jeep, I pushed thoughts of Julia and Daniel aside. Nothing mattered except seeing Lisa again. The hour-long

drive to the Blackwood pack territory felt like an eternity, Maddox pacing restlessly within me the entire journey.

Soon, I promised my wolf. Soon we’ll mark her properly.

I pulled onto the winding road leading to Lisa’s cabin, nestled among towering woods. Even from half a mile away, my enhanced senses picked up her scent-wild honeysuckle and warm sunshine. My wolf whined with anticipation as I navigated the final stretch of road.

Lisa was waiting on the porch, her long auburn hair loose around her shoulders. She wore a simple sundress that highlighted her curves, and I felt my mouth go dry at the sight of her. Before I could even fully exit the Jeep, she was running toward me. I caught her in my

arms, breathing in her intoxicating scent.

“I thought you’d never get here,” she murmured against my neck, pressing small kisses to my skin.

“Nothing could keep me away,” I replied, tightening my grip on her. “My wolf has been driving me crazy the entire drive.”

Lisa pulled back enough to look into my eyes. “I’ve been feeling him too, you know. Through our connection. He’s very… insistent.”

The electricity between us was immediate and overwhelming. I could feel Maddox straining against my control, desperate to complete the

marking ritual that would bind us permanently as mates. I cupped Lisa’s face in my hands, feeling the perfect softness of her skin.

“I’m ready,” she whispered, reading my thoughts. “I’ve been ready since the day I met you.”

We barely made it through the front door before our mouths found each other in a desperate kiss. I pushed her against the wall, grinding

my hardening cock against her through our clothes. She moaned into my mouth, her hands already working to unbuckle my belt.

“Too many clothes,” she gasped as I trailed hot kisses down her neck, savoring the spot where my mark would soon be.

I tugged her sundress over her head in one swift motion, revealing her lace bra and matching panties. My breath caught at the sight of her-curves in all the right places, skin flushed with desire. Her nipples strained against the thin fabric, begging for attention.
