Chapter 15 Don’t You Feel Embarrassed?

Shiloh stood there in shock, swallowing hard as his gaze locked on Leander. When he first met Leander the day before, Shiloh hadn’t thought much of him. But after he was taken down by the thugs and saw Leander swiftly take out all four of them in the blink of an eye, his disbelief turned into awe. Leander’s skills had left him feeling both humiliated and fearful.

He had thought that incident was just a blip in his life, something to forget. Yet here was Leander, now standing less than fifty steps away from him at school.

“What’s up?” Victor noticed Shiloh’s strange expression and asked, puzzled.

“N–nothing,” Shiloh stammered, quickly averting his gaze, not wanting to reveal the embarrassing incident from the day before.

“Focus. We’ve got a sparring session coming up, and we can’t afford to embarrass the school!” Victor said seriously, and Shiloh nodded silently.

“Leander, wait here for me. I’ve got some things to take care of, but I’ll be back soon,” Madeline said with a sweet smile before heading backstage with a few other girls to hang banners and

prepare.

Leander stood off to the side when Liam suddenly appeared out of nowhere. “Leander, what do you think? Pretty impressive turnout, right?” he asked, glancing around the gym. “Looks like half the school showed up to watch!”

Leander glanced around and nodded. “For just a sparring exchange, the crowd is definitely over the top.”

Even though he stood among the students, Leander seemed separate from them, as if he existed in his own world. These regular students, fascinated by martial arts like karate and kickboxing, had no idea what true martial arts masters were capable of–being able to crush steel with a fist, lift cars, or shatter rocks with a single kick.

“See those guys over there? They’re our martial arts club members. The guy in front is Victor Lane, the club president. He’s the strongest, even better than the coach. And behind him is Shiloh Wolfe, the club’s second–best. He’s almost as popular as Victor. Look at all the girls–they can’t take their eyes off them!” Liam added with a hint of envy. “Man, I wish I could be like them. Handsome and tough. Imagine the attention from the girls then!”

Leander remained indifferent. If only Liam knew that the same Shiloh he admired had been kicked to the ground like a helpless dog just the day before, he probably wouldn’t think so highly of him anymore.

The atmosphere in the gym was buzzing, and suddenly, a wave of excited gasps spread from the entrance. The students parted to make way as two figures walked in, immediately becoming

“Whoa!” Liam exclaimed, slapping Leander on the arm. “Leander, look! It’s our school’s other two campus queens!”

Ignoring Leander’s uninterested expression, he continued excitedly, “The petite one on the left is Ginny Lancaster, and the tall one next to her is Yvette Sitwell! I can’t believe it; all three school queens are here for this! This is insane! This trip is totally worth it!”

Leander rubbed his nose, his tone casual. “Yeah, I know them.”

Liam turned, his face full of disbelief. “You know them?!”

It was already surprising that Leander was close with Madeline, but now he was claiming to know Yvette and Ginny too? That sounded too far–fetched to believe. Leander was just an ordinary student from the countryside. Sure, Madeline had a humble background too, so Liam could understand their connection. But Ginny and Yvette came from wealthy, prestigious families. How could Leander possibly know them?!

“Yeah, we were at the same cafe yesterday,” Leander replied nonchalantly, unaware that his casual answer only made Liam more doubtful.

Meanwhile, across the gym, the members of Crestgate High School’s karate team stood quietly, their demeanor calm. The leader of the team gave Victor and his group a dismissive glance, a smirk tugging at his lips.

Victor took a microphone from a girl and addressed the crowd.

“Thank you all for coming! Today, we’re honored to have the karate team from Crestgate High School here to engage in a friendly spar with our martial arts club. This event is all about promoting a spirit of combat sports, and we appreciate everyone’s support!

“Next, we will have three one–on–one matches. It’s all in the spirit of friendship and learning, so cheer for our martial arts club and show some applause for the Crestgate team!”

The gym erupted in applause, especially from the girls, who clapped with extra enthusiasm, hoping Victor would notice them.

Victor handed back the mic and began warming up while the karate team barely moved, as if they didn’t think much of the event.

“A sparring exchange? They really do this?” Leander looked at the arena, slightly surprised.

“Of course! That’s the best part! Watching the two teams spar is what everyone’s excited about,” Liam explained.

Leander shook his head. “If that’s the case, it’s going to be pretty boring.”

“Boring? What are you talking about?” Liam was confused.

Leander pointed at Victor and his team, then at the karate squad. “The difference in strength is too obvious. If they really spar, our martial arts club is going to get completely crushed.”

Though Leander’s voice wasn’t loud, the people nearby heard him clearly.

Before Liam could respond, a girl standing next to them couldn’t hold back and retorted, “Do you even know the first thing about martial arts? How can you just claim they’ll be crushed?”

The girl was quite beautiful, just shy of Madeline and Yvette’s level. She was Jade Dempsey, the vice president of the arts committee, and had a long–standing crush on Victor. To her, he was the epitome of perfection. When Victor had spoken earlier, the entire room had clapped, but Leander had stood still, completely unengaged. That alone had already irritated Jade. Now, hearing him belittle Victor, she couldn’t stay quiet.

“Do you even know Victor’s strength? Have you ever watched him compete? Do you have any idea how many national titles he’s won or how many top–level fighters he’s beaten?” Her words were cutting, and she made no attempt to be polite. “If you know nothing, don’t speak up like you do. Don’t you feel embarrassed spouting nonsense?”
