Chapter 18 Fulfill Your Promise

Leander’s words echoed through the room, leaving everyone in an uproar. While his stepping up to confront Colton gave them a sense of satisfaction, most were skeptical. Even Victor and Shiloh had been easily defeated by Colton. What could this unknown face, Leander, possibly do?
This guy really thinks he’s someone, huh? Jade sneered inwardly. To her, Leander’s actions were nothing short of humiliating. In her eyes, Victor was the perfect man, unmatched and irreplaceable. She believed he was the best, and yet even he had been crushed by Colton with ease. What chance did Leander have?
“What did you say?” Colton squinted, almost thinking he’d misheard. Beat me until I apologize?”
He took a step forward, smirking in disbelief. “Is this what it’s come to these days? Guys throwing away their pride just to impress a girl? Do you really think you’re worthy?”
Then, he gestured toward Victor, Shiloh, and the others. “Even they couldn’t take me on. What makes you think you can?”
A look of worry crossed Madeline’s eyes as she grabbed Leander’s arm, shaking her head. “Leander, it’s alright. Just drop it. I’m not hurt. He’s not worth it.”
Leander gave her a gentle smile but didn’t reply. Instead, he took a step forward, standing directly in front of Colton.
Colton spread his hands, acting magnanimous. “Very well, since you want to play the hero, I’ll give you that chance! If you can beat me, I’ll apologize right away. Heck, I’ll even apologize to your entire martial arts club if
you want.”
But then, with a sly grin, he added, “But if you lose, you’ll crawl under that chair over there. Deal? Got the guts to take it on?” He pointed to a nearby barstool, and the crowd collectively tensed. Colton was ruthless! The entire school had gathered, packing the martial arts club to the brim. If Leander lost and had to crawl under that chair, he’d be humiliated beyond repair. He’d never live it down.
Yvette and Ginny exchanged worried glances. They’d been impressed by Leander’s skills the day before when he’d singlehandedly taken down four thugs, but neither was sure if he could beat Colton. If Leander got beaten here, his reputation would be in shambles.
Standing just inches away from Colton, Leander’s lips curled into a mischievous smile. “If we’re playing, let’s raise the stakes.” He raised one hand and announced, “I’ll fight you with just one hand. If I lose, I’ll do as you say. But if you lose, not only will you apologize, but you’ll also slap yourself ten times. How about it? Still want to play?”

The crowd thought Leander had lost his mind. Colton was a formidable fighter; they couldn’t believe Leander was suggesting a one–handed fight. Even ignoring the bet, fighting with just one hand gave him no chance at victory.
That idiot’s lost it! Jade muttered, her contempt clear.
Colton burst into laughter. He found it hilarious–Leander was the first person to ever speak to him this way since he’d started practicing karate. “Alright, you asked for it. If I lose, not only will I apologize to the girl and everyone else, but I’ll also slap myself ten times!”
He agreed without hesitation, and the other karate club members roared with laughter. Each one was a seasoned fighter, with Colton being the strongest among them. Someone like Leander wasn’t even on their radar.
As soon as Colton accepted, Leander spoke again. “Ready?”
“To beat you? I don’t need to be.” Colton shrugged, utterly dismissive.
Leander didn’t respond. He simply placed his right hand behind his back and extended his left. In an instant, Colton’s expression shifted. A shadow darted across his vision, and suddenly, a heavy blow landed on his chest.
Bam!
The crowd watched in stunned silence as Colton stumbled backward, retreating ten steps before slamming into the wall. Clutching his stomach, he reeled in disbelief as he doubled over, retching. He was completely incapacitated.
Everyone was frozen in shock. No one had even seen what happened, and yet Colton had already been forced back.
“You cheated!” one of the karate members shouted as they finally processed what had happened. Enraged, the karate member who previously fought Shiloh rushed forward and aimed a punch at Leander’s stomach. Leander dodged effortlessly, his hand still behind his back. With a slight shift of his left hand, he struck the opponent in the stomach.
“Ugh!” The attacker collapsed instantly, unable to rise. One by one, the rest of the karate team charged, anger flashing in their eyes.
Leander’s expression remained cold and indifferent. Within moments, all the white–clad karate fighters were sprawled across the floor of the gym, leaving only Leander standing, having used just one hand the entire time.
The crowd fell silent. Every pair of eyes, filled with shock, disbelief, and admiration, focused on Leander. The martial arts club erupted into chaos.
“That guy…” Jade’s face twisted as she swallowed hard, unable to comprehend what had just

happened. The team Colton led, a force she had considered unbeatable, had just been taken down by Leander alone.
Victor sat frozen on the floor, stunned. He’d always thought of himself as one of the best, someone who had reached the level of a national athlete. But after facing Colton, he finally understood the gap in their abilities. And now, watching Leander defeat an entire team, he felt nothing but overwhelming defeat.
Yvette and Ginny stood not far off, their eyes sparkling. Though they hadn’t been particularly impressed with Leander before, they couldn’t deny it now–he was undeniably magnetic at that
moment.
Madeline covered her mouth with her hand, astonished. The Leander she had known from childhood was now a completely different person.
Leander stood tall and proud in the center of the room. “You call yourselves fighters? What a joke.”
As he passed Jade, she lowered her head in shame, recalling how she had mocked him earlier. But Leander didn’t spare her a glance. His eyes were locked on Colton, who was still struggling to get up.
Colton’s veins bulged with frustration, but he didn’t dare make a move. After watching Leander take down his entire team, Colton knew he was no match. He couldn’t believe someone this powerful existed at Ravenridge Senior High.
As Leander’s gaze bore into him, Colton instinctively flinched back. But Leander grabbed him by the collar and lifted him off the ground. “Now, it’s time for you to fulfill your promise.”
