Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Retribution

Mrs. Logan’s face went pale. Her lips trembled nonstop, but she couldn’t make a sound.

Mr. Sinclair, however, didn’t spare her another glance. He said something to Chloe Sinclair and turned to leave.

Chloe had no desire to linger in this place either. She fell into step with her father, ready to head upstairs with him.

This left Mrs. Logan all alone, slumped on the ground like a pile of muck.

"No, this can’t be happening..."

The pay from the Sinclair family was indeed good. Even at fifty or sixty years old, she earned more in a year than most people. A significant part of that came from the grocery money the Sinclairs gave her.

So what if the cost of living in Kennet was high? A month’s worth of groceries didn’t cost that much.

At first, she had saved the large sums left over. But as time went on and she saw that no one from the Sinclair family ever asked about it, she started spending it herself.

With more money to spare, her quality of life improved.

Despite having no children, she spent nearly every penny she had each month.

’And now they want me to pay it all back?’

’Where would I get that kind of money?’

’But if I can’t pay, will the Sinclairs call the police?’

Mrs. Logan was terrified. She stared at Chloe Sinclair’s retreating back and suddenly lunged forward, intending to grab her.

But just as she was about to touch Chloe, Chloe suddenly raised an arm, causing Mrs. Logan’s hand to grasp at empty air.

Mrs. Logan lost her balance and fell to the ground with a THUD.

"Agh—"

The next moment, Mrs. Logan’s earth-shattering wails filled the air.

The piercing cries made Chloe’s ears ache. She had no intention of dealing with her.

Chloe’s voice was soft, but to Mrs. Logan, she sounded like a demon.

Her eyes widened, and she stared straight at Chloe, the shock in her gaze even more profound than before.

"You... you’re not Chloe Sinclair!"

The old Chloe Sinclair let everyone walk all over her, like a little white rabbit in a den of wolves.

She would never have been like this—dangerous, unhinged...

"I have to tell Mr. Sinclair! You... you’re a ghost! A monster!"

Mrs. Logan released Chloe. Her face was ashen as she scooted backward on her rear, repeating the same words over and over as if she were possessed.

Chloe raised an eyebrow, thoroughly impressed by Mrs. Logan’s wild imagination.

She didn’t want to waste any more words on Mrs. Logan. She turned to leave, but paused on her way up the stairs. Looking back over her shoulder, she fixed her dark, unblinking eyes on the woman and said, "Mrs. Logan, remember to transfer the money to my account tomorrow, okay?"
