Chloe Sinclair regretted the words as soon as they left her mouth, a flash of panic in her eyes.
After her rebirth, her relationship with Jasper Shaw had been strictly that of collaborators; they had never made any progress beyond that.
’What will Jasper Shaw think of me for asking so abruptly today?’
Chloe Sinclair stared, unblinking, at Jasper Shaw’s face, watching for any change in his expression.
She saw the man’s Adam’s apple bob, his eyes cold and stern.
Chloe Sinclair grew even more nervous.
"I..."
Chloe Sinclair’s mind raced as she tried to think of some way to salvage the situation.
However, the next moment, the man suddenly lowered his head, his cold eyes filled with sincerity. "I do."
Chloe Sinclair’s lips parted slightly, but she was unable to react for a long moment.
She understood every word Jasper Shaw said.
But what did they mean when put together?
She could feel her little heart pounding relentlessly in her chest.
"I like you, Chloe Sinclair."
Jasper Shaw repeated himself, but this time his tone held a new, forceful edge.
Chloe Sinclair was all too familiar with it.
In her past life, after she married Jasper Shaw, he had been plagued by insecurity, which made him act more forcefully when they were together.
Before, Chloe Sinclair would have surely stormed off. But now that she had come to terms with things, she found Jasper Shaw inexplicably cute.
Still, his words left her momentarily speechless.
Just as Chloe Sinclair was about to say something, Fletcher suddenly appeared again.
His portly frame was leaning against the same doorway Jasper Shaw had just been against. Panting, he said, "Chloe, the press conference is about to start! Professor Quincy wants you downstairs immediately. Hurry up! I’ve got other things to do, so I’m heading out."
After saying this, Fletcher hastily turned around again.
The rooftop staircase was rather narrow. The moment he finished speaking, he bounded down the stairs.
He probably didn’t even see that there was another person on the rooftop.
