Meanwhile, at Whitespire Tech, many of the researchers were starting to panic.
But their director, President Logan, merely snorted.
"What’s there to be afraid of? Didn’t Tiana Warren guarantee that Chloe Sinclair doesn’t have a backup on her computer? As long as we publish the paper first, it doesn’t matter what Chloe does. We just won’t respond."
However, one of the staff members frowned, worried. "But, President Logan, what about the online chatter?"
Whitespire Tech was already in the eye of the storm.
Seeing his employee acting so cowardly, President Logan’s expression soured. He shot the man an impatient glance. "Hah. What’s there to fear? This isn’t the first time we’ve done something like this, and when has it ever gone wrong? What you should be thinking about right now is how much money our company will make once this paper is published."
Finding Tiana Warren to steal the data was a fluke in itself. They had done similar things before, but always on a smaller scale, with minor manuscripts. Even if the other party wanted to sue, they never succeeded due to a lack of evidence.
He hadn’t held out much hope when he tasked Tiana Warren with stealing the data, but to his surprise, she had actually managed to get her hands on the manuscript.
He had read the manuscript’s contents and knew it was only a rough draft. But he was certain that with a few modifications, publishing it as a paper would cause a huge sensation in the quantum physics community.
The only thing that surprised him was how quickly Chloe Sinclair had tracked them down, catching them completely off guard.
"That two-faced bitch, Tiana Warren. I gave her five hundred thousand, and she still sold me out."
President Logan spat, his eyes glinting maliciously.
He looked at the online discussions and narrowed his beady eyes. "Has the paper been published yet?"
One of the researchers in a black coat nodded. "President Logan, the paper is almost finished."
President Logan nodded in satisfaction and chuckled. "As soon as the paper is published, the credit for authorship will be mine. And as for Chloe Sinclair..."
Before he could finish, a scream pierced the air.
