Tomorrow was Chinese New Year, so Chloe Sinclair went to bed early.
This was the most peaceful she’d slept since her rebirth.
She didn’t have to think about experiment data, worry about the attacks and vitriol online, or deal with the disgusting people in her real life.
On Chinese New Year’s Day, all she wanted was a good night’s sleep.
But at midnight, the sound of fireworks and children’s happy cheers woke Chloe Sinclair up.
The window was open, letting in a gentle, cold breeze that made the curtains flutter.
Suddenly, her sharp ears caught a faint rustling sound outside her window.
Chloe Sinclair frowned. The smooth lines of her arms tensed instantly as she focused and walked toward the window.
Looking down, she saw Jasper Shaw struggling to climb up a white pipe.
Chloe Sinclair wasn’t sure how long she stood there, frozen, before she belatedly came to her senses and took out her phone to snap a bunch of pictures.
Jasper Shaw clearly hadn’t expected Chloe Sinclair to spot him. Their eyes met, and he stared at the dark camera lens, looking a bit awkward for a moment.
Chloe Sinclair leaned halfway out the window and held out a hand, ready to pull Jasper Shaw up.
But to her surprise, Jasper suddenly moved with surprising agility. He made a few rock-climbing-like maneuvers and scrambled up much faster.
He jumped through the window, but just as he was about to speak, Chloe Sinclair covered his mouth.
Jasper Shaw was a little confused.
Chloe Sinclair blinked and whispered, "My dad’s room is next door, and he’s still working."
The villa had good soundproofing, but with the window open, her dad would definitely hear them.
Although she had already told her family about him, Jasper sneaking in like this at this hour still made her nervous.
The room was dark, lit only by the faint, yellow glow of a streetlamp below the villa, which cast some light through the wide-open window.
By that dim light, Chloe Sinclair could just make out Jasper Shaw’s high-bridged nose and long eyelashes.
’Holy shit, my man is so handsome!’
Chloe Sinclair had always thought Jasper Shaw was handsome, but she had never felt it so clearly as she did now.
