Chapter 129: Chapter 104: Outwardly Strong but Inwardly Weak

Su Chen wasn’t an idiot. He knew there had to be some undisclosed secrets, or at least things Hou Ting couldn’t comfortably say.

"Alright, I get it!"

Just as Su Chen was about to hang up, Hou Ting’s voice came through the phone again, tinged with hesitation.

"Young Master Su, wait!"

"Hm? What’s up?" Su Chen asked, confused.

Hou Ting was silent for a moment, then said with some apprehension, "Young Master Su, ’A single cloud over the dark northwest sky.’ I can’t say any more than that!"

A smile touched Su Chen’s lips. "Thanks!"

After hanging up, Su Chen began to ponder the meaning of Hou Ting’s phrase. He thought for a long time but couldn’t make sense of it.

’Sigh... It seems my foundation is just too shallow,’ Su Chen couldn’t help but sigh.

He had a vague sense of what was going on, but giving up just like that? Impossible!

Su Chen sat on the sofa, lost in thought for about three minutes. Finally, he looked up at Jiang Hui and his companion. "Why don’t you two go to your rooms and get some rest."

The two of them understood immediately. What was coming next was not for their ears. They promptly stood up and returned to their rooms.

’Sigh... I thought I was already pretty formidable, but it turns out I was just getting ahead of myself. Right now, I’m just all bark and no bite.’

With a self-deprecating chuckle, he picked up his phone and made another call.

The phone rang for a good ten seconds before someone picked up.

"Brother Cheen, hope I’m not disturbing you."

That’s right—the person Su Chen was calling was Xiao Chen.

Xiao Chen glanced at the people beside him before speaking calmly, "Hm? It’s nothing. What’s up? You sound troubled."

Su Chen let out a wry laugh. "Sigh... I’ve run into a bit of trouble and wanted to get your advice."

"You’re asking me for advice? What kind of trouble could you possibly have that you can’t solve? Unless..." A thought suddenly struck Xiao Chen. "Go on, tell me what’s wrong."

"Brother Cheen, what does ’A single cloud over the dark northwest sky’ mean?" Su Chen didn’t waste any time, getting straight to the phrase Hou Ting had given him.

The moment Xiao Chen heard this, he connected it with Su Chen’s trip to Inner Mongolia and had a pretty good idea of what was happening. "Hm? Kid, don’t tell me you pissed off someone from the Yun family?"

"The Yun family? No, it’s like this..."

"Done! No problem. You can come over and haul it away yourself when the time comes!" Su Chen replied readily. He wasn’t much of a drinker anyway, so the wine was just collecting dust.

"Hahaha! You said it, so no backing out later!"

After a bit more lighthearted chatter, Xiao Chen hung up.

"So, Tianqi, you’re not going to hold this against me, are you?" Xiao Chen asked, looking at the handsome young man beside him.

"Brother Cheen, what are you talking about? It’s just some livestock resources in Dongwu Banner. It’s no big deal. But... I did hear you mention the old man’s wine. How about splitting a bottle with me when you get it?"

"Pah! In your dreams! Impossible. Absolutely not!" Xiao Chen rejected the idea without a second thought. A man who loved wine as much as life itself, how could he possibly give away the good stuff?

Hearing this, Yun Tianqi could only shake his head helplessly. He commented sarcastically to the others, "Now I’ve seen what a real cheapskate looks like. It’s just one bottle of wine, and he won’t even let us have a taste!"

"Alright, alright! When Su Chen gets back to the Imperial Capital, I’ll let you all drink your fill. Also, Tianqi, you should make a call. The stir on your end is probably pretty big." Xiao Chen added, not forgetting to remind him. He knew exactly what those people were like.

"Don’t worry, I already sent a text. By the way, who is this Su Chen anyway? For you to go to all this trouble to help him."

It wasn’t just Yun Tianqi; the other two were also extremely curious. They had never heard of anyone named Su Chen in their circle before.

Seeing their expressions, a smile touched Xiao Chen’s lips. He looked at Yun Tianqi and the others. "He’s a very interesting guy. It would be a good thing for you all to be friends with him."
