"The weather in the south is so much warmer. It’s perfect, aside from the humidity!"
Su Chen lay on the sofa, overlooking the Huangpu River. The bright sun warming his body was a sensation he couldn’t get in the Imperial Capital.
Before he could even enjoy a moment of peace, his phone rang.
Su Chen tilted his head to look at the phone on the table. The caller ID showed it was Sicong...
’I give up,’ Su Chen complained to himself. ’Did these guys all plan this together or something? Why is it so hard to get some rest at the end of the year?’
Though he was grumbling, he still answered the call.
"Hello~" he said, his voice lazy as he lay on the sofa.
"Heard you’re back in Shanghai? Why didn’t you say anything? We have to at least throw you a proper welcome!" Sicong said, his tone teasing.
"What’s there to say? Everyone’s been calling me for work reports. I just got home and my seat’s not even warm yet, and now you’re calling."
"Just get to the point. What’s up? You’re not calling to give me a work report too, are you?"
Su Chen didn’t bother asking Sicong how he knew he was back in Shanghai. It was no doubt Zong Xinyao who had called the franchise partners to discuss the annual conference and mentioned his return in passing.
"Uh... well, it’s almost the New Year, and you’re back in Shanghai. I was thinking we should all get together. Qin Fen and Feiyu are in Shanghai too. What do you think...?"
After a moment of thought, Su Chen said, "Alright. Where should I meet you guys?"
Sicong chuckled mischievously. "Hehe~ No need. We’re all in the garage downstairs. Come on down!"
Hearing this, Su Chen felt the urge to smack him. "Give me two minutes." With that, Su Chen hung up.
Su Chen didn’t take Chen Fei with him this time, since it would have been a bit awkward for him to tag along.
Just as he got up to leave, Su Chen paused. He turned to Chen Fei and asked, "Oh, right, Ah Fei, what about the thing I asked you to prepare earlier?"
It was something Su Chen had specifically instructed him to get on the plane back from the Imperial Capital, meant as a small gift for Aunt Tang’s grandson.
"It’s ready!" Chen Fei immediately pulled a huge red envelope from the inner pocket of his overcoat. It was stuffed with a full fifty thousand in cash.
Su Chen took it, weighed it in his hand for a moment, and gestured for Chen Fei to go get Aunt Tang.
Chen Fei walked quickly to the housekeeper’s room.
"KNOCK KNOCK!" He tapped lightly on the door twice and called out softly, "Aunt Tang, Mr. Su needs you!"
The door opened at once. Aunt Tang hurried out of the room, asking curiously, "Mr. Su, are you hungry? I’ll go make a meal right away!"
"No, Mr. Su needs you for something else!" Chen Fei said with a faint smile.
