Upon entering the room, they saw Su Chen sitting leisurely on the sofa, sipping tea.
"Boss."
Chen Fei led the two team leaders to Su Chen’s side and addressed him respectfully.
"Mm," Su Chen nodded slightly. His gaze fell upon the two men behind Chen Fei. He even recognized one of them—the very captain who had stopped him on his first visit to the park.
He gestured for the three of them to sit. Su Chen had no interest in talking to people while craning his neck.
"Which of you will be staying behind in Shanghai? I trust Chen Fei has already briefed you," Su Chen asked.
"Boss, that would be me. Xue Yi, captain of the Fifth Reserve Squad. We’ve been fully briefed on the situation."
The sturdy man who had just taken a seat shot back to his feet, his expression solemn as he spoke.
Su Chen was momentarily taken aback by Xue Yi’s abruptness, but seeing his confident expression, he simply smiled and nodded.
"Chen Fei, where are the others?"
"Sir, the others are nearby. They came straight here after landing. The plan was to pick up the items and head right back to Zheng Island, so we didn’t bother with booking hotels," Chen Fei explained hurriedly.
Su Chen nodded, then turned his gaze to Pei Rang. "There. He’s all yours. You can handle the arrangements."
Then, he turned back to Xue Yi. "Pei Rang will be in charge of your compensation and benefits. Don’t worry... you’ll be well taken care of."
Xue Yi’s eyes flickered. Back on Zheng Island, he’d gotten an idea of the benefits package at the park, and it was a world away from any other job he could find. And that was before being entrusted with such a critical role.
Besides, the ladder of opportunity had been extended to him. Whether or not he could climb it was up to him alone.
Pei Rang knew Su Chen had important matters to discuss with Chen Fei, so he didn’t linger. He called over Xue Yi, and the two of them left, carrying two large bags of documents.
After seeing Pei Rang out, Su Chen called Chen Fei into the study. To his surprise, Chen Fei was carrying a small, black combination briefcase.
He asked and found out that Chen Fei, aware of the vast amount of classified information at the park and research institute, had gone through Xiao Chen’s channels to purchase some military-grade briefcases and safes. All told, he had spent over a hundred thousand yuan.
Su Chen couldn’t help but give Chen Fei a second look. ’This kid is getting sharper and sharper,’ he inwardly marveled. ’He’s really starting to own his role.’
He asked about Professor Chen’s current status, and the answer stunned him. Professor Chen had practically sealed off the lab. None of the research members were allowed out, and even Chen Fei and Xiao Peng could only inquire about the situation from the doorway.
