Su Chen didn’t mind, though. After all, it was a kind gesture.
But the gifts immediately caught Chen Shufen’s eye. She held them, unable to put them down. Su Chen sighed to himself. ’These people really have human nature figured out.’
Seeing his mom still admiring the gifts, Su Chen left the private room to settle the bill.
The bill for both tables came to just over thirty-one thousand. Manager Li had offered a twenty-percent discount, but Su Chen refused him outright. He wasn’t short on cash; the manager’s gesture was enough.
In the end, after some back and forth, Su Chen paid thirty thousand flat.
By the time Su Chen returned to the private room, Su Zhuyun and his two brothers had sobered up considerably. At least they could stand and walk.
They were about to grab the gifts and leave when Manager Li entered with two staff members. Seeing the packages in Su Chen’s hands, he immediately took them. "Mr. Su, we’ll take care of these."
Watching Manager Li and the two staff members carry all the gifts, Su Chen smiled and said, "Sorry for the trouble."
"No trouble at all! This is what we should be doing!" Hearing this, Manager Li grinned from ear to ear.
He escorted Su Chen’s party downstairs, carefully placed all the gifts in the trunk, and then stood respectfully to the side.
Su Chen lowered his window, waved to Manager Li, and drove off.
Watching the car merge into the flow of traffic, Manager Li let out a long sigh of relief. Seeing off these important figures made him feel as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders.
He pulled a business card from his pocket, which prominently displayed Yin Zheng’s name and phone number. Manager Li muttered to himself, "The ladder up is right in front of me. Now it’s just a question of whether I can climb it!"
He gingerly tucked the business card into his wallet before leading the staff members back into the restaurant.
Meanwhile, Yin Shan and his son, who had left earlier, had already returned to the Zongyu Spring villa community. They saw six people squatting by the gate to their villa—three men and three women, from what they could tell.
When Yin Shan’s car appeared, the six squatting figures immediately shot to their feet.
Perhaps their legs had gone numb from squatting for so long, as they all nearly stumbled when they stood. They seemed to remain upright through sheer willpower alone.
"Dad, it looks like those people from the restaurant this afternoon. I even know one of them," Yin Zheng said, recognizing the lead man at a glance. "He even came to our house to pay his respects during the New Year."
’Strictly speaking, you could almost consider him one of us,’ Yin Zheng thought, his expression turning strange.
"Stop here at the gate," Yin Shan said. He knew this matter had to be dealt with; he owed Su Chen an explanation, at the very least.
Su Chen hadn’t mentioned the incident, but Yin Shan understood why. Since he had already stepped in, it was now his responsibility to see it through to the end.
The Bentley glided to a stop in front of them. Seeing Yin Shan in the passenger seat, the man leading the group rushed over.
"Mr. Yin," the man said, his head bowed in reverence.
The other two men could only stand respectfully to the side. They weren’t even qualified to address him.
"Wang Nan, you’ve really found yourself a fine wife. If I recall, you came from the countryside yourself, didn’t you? So how is it that after making a bit of money, you’ve started looking down on country folk?"
